I agree with you guys and all. But as for the sequel thing, I forgot to mention I mean just disney and Pixar sequels. Back to the future was good, and there are some movies out there that i was pissed they didnt make a sequel to. (Street Fighter being one of them, even though the movie wasnt all that great). I didn't like Toy Story 2, mostly because there was no NEED to make a sequel. It was fine the way it was. Instead of re-animating old movies, why not use that talent to make newer better ones. Granted they did a cool job on Ice Age (I can't help it, that little squirrel is just too damn funny) but it wasn't really needed. Then again, it is a bit of a contradition. I mean most sequels arent really ever needed

Movies that has awesome sequels:

The Transporter

Ice Age

Back to the Future

Rocky Balboa (Longest series ive ever seen. lol)

Lord of the Ring (best damn Fantasy/Adventure movie ever)

and lastly, Rush Hour

Back to the Future was originally CONCEIVED as a three part time travel movie.

The movie reviewer in The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction" (the most literary of all the Sci-Fi mags) Gave BttF I a grudging passing grade, BttF II a failing mark, and totally apologized for both after BttF III, calling the series a brilliant single piece.

You see most Trilogies start out as a single. Then comes the concept to expand on the original. This is why most Part IIs suk no mater what the media. The poor part IIs are merely a bridge to get to part III, where, it is hopped, things tie up.

So the Time Travel gimmicks and cutbacks in BttF II & III were integral in the writing of BttF I. Thank you Hollywood for NOT telegraphing them.

Ics Age 2 just plain sucked- the sharp humor from the first one was gone, and the "love" story was at best half-hearted. Scratch could only do so much >,>

And don't get me started on Rush Hour

Disney's growing need to milk every damn movie for all its worth with endless sequels is getting tiring, I agree. There are just some movies that don't need sequels- especially when all the original voices have died or are too old to reprise thier roles.

Sequels/series I liked include:

The Star Trek series (my favorites are 2, 3, 4 and 8 )
Star Wars episodes 4-6
The Jason Bourne movies (now there's a great sequel)
Lord of the Rings (of course)
Shrek- Shrek 2 wasn't as good as 1, but it was still enjoyable and 3 looks hilarious
Antonio Bandera as El Mariachi (can't think of the series title)
Kevin Smith's Jay and Silent Bob "series"- Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, J-SB Strike Back and Clerks II
Mad Max series
Lethal Weapon series
Beverly Hills Cop series
Sean Connery as James Bond...and think I'll stop now hehe

But some were real losers. Even by trekie standards.

Blame JRRT, Not Hollywood.

Written and directed by an outsider to the Hollywood mill. El Mariachi was the name of the first one.

Again, written and directed by an outsider to the Hollywood mill.

Ditto. I have the nagging suspicion that that trio was conceived as a trio. Rather like the BttF set.
ScarlettPheonix wrote:Beverly Hills Cop series

You LIKED those?
ScarlettPheonix wrote:Sean Connery as James Bond...and think I'll stop now hehe
Again, do not blame Hollywood for the Bond Flicks not sucking. Blame Ian Flemming.

IMHO the problems with Hollywood sequels is that Hollywood mostly tries to capitalize on the success of the original. They rarely analyze what made the original successful.

Rattatoui (sp?) yeah think it'll be up there in the top 3 and I've only seen the teaser

Aladdin and the King of Thieves (3) was awesome, they got Robbin Williams back for the Genie :P Lion King 2 looked crap but Lion King 3 is awesome (seems to be a trend ).
Lilo and Stitch (awesome), Stitch Movie (meh), Lilo and Stitch 2 (good). See there's a definite trend!

:o I thought it was hillarious. And the singing numbers were good too
And don't get me started on Rush Hour
Not a fan of Jackie Chan then? D: Rush Hour 1 & 2 are awesome (btw they're making a 3rd :P) and Shanghai Noon & Knights also awesome. He hasn't really come to match those films ever since, Around the World in 80 Days is great but concentrates more on commedy than the martial arts.

I thought Shrek 2 was funnier than 1, and I love Puss in Boots

Technically Clerks etc. aren't sequels (besides Clerks 2) and I'm not sure I'd call them a "series" either :P

Next Bond film will be a direct sequel to Casino Royale apparently, the first Bond movie to be a direct sequel so should be interesting :)

I liked Beverly Hills Cop movies too

Didn't know we were making a distinction between "Hollywood" sequels and none "Hollywood" sequels, Tysbil. What's your definition? It doesn't suck so it can't be a Hollywood sequel? :P

I actually do like Jakie Chan movies- and I liked the first Rush Hour. Just not the second.

Some of the Star Trek movies do suck, I know- but there are good ones in the mix too.

Ice Age 2- to each his own I guess and the musical number was the best part of the movie I agree. The dodos from the first movie were funnier though.

I know the movies after Clerks (except for Clerks II) arent direct sequels and are only losely tied together, but then you can say the same about other movie series, so series works.

Haven't seen Casino Royale yet, but I want too- that movie looks fun as hell.

No, its just that Hollywood has such a long standing tradition of sucky sequels. Kind of a tradition that is hard to break out of.

Outsiders have a better chance.

A series that was poorly conceived (Movie wise) is the Harry Potter series. Too many breaks inbetween the films and the kids are getting older and older while their characters aren't aging as quickly. First three I liked but the forth...meh. Fifth looks like it may be good.

I thought Rush Hour 2 was funnier than the first (especially out takes) but it wasn't going to be as good as the first but still a great film IMO. Only thing I was really disappointed about was that Jackie didn't get to fight Zhang Ziyi, give Jackie another martial artist and they don't fight? Think he wasn't too pleased with that either, his next film Shanghai Knights he get Donnie Yen and made sure they had a fight at the end.

X-men 2 was a good hollywood sequel IMO  not 3 though, was good but could have been so much better.

Casino Royale is awesome, if you ignore some stupid physics like his Astin Martin bouncing around (low centre of gravity, won't flip over :P)

Keavy, Harry Potter sucks :P Generally the fans of the books don't like the movies much. Myself, I hate them both :P

My brother said the books have a good story but are poorly written, which doesn't really lend them to easy reading or enjoyable reading.

If there's any Terry Pratchett fans outside a live version of Hog Father was made by Sky (UK), consists of two 3-hour parts. I'm sure it's floating around on the net somewhere, very good adaptation even though that's one of his books I haven't read

My parents and most of my friends are into the books and movies and since I love going to the movies I tend to go along with them to see them.

Sugami, I bet if we were on the same server we'd be mortal enemies who one day, for whatever reason, became the best of friends.
