A new ranger is born!
Well I start playing FFXI about 2 yrs ago and maybe played for 4 months. I had a Galka war/mnk. I go this combo to lvl 30 and unlock my ranger. But after getting it to lvl 10 I fell into school, job, and money problems and had to leave the world I came to love. Didn’t think I would ever return.
Well then comes the Xbox 360 witch I have been waiting for a long time. I am now done school have a great job and plenty of time to do things I love. Maybe a month or so before the Xbox 360 came out, I was told the came I came to forgot was going to now be for the Xbox 360 as well. I was so happy and couldn’t wait till April to get my hands on it.
Now with game in hand I return to a strange but familiar land the was long forgotten. I start myself out as a Mithra whm. I start a whm b/c I figured there were going to be a rush of new players to FFXI. So knowing this the easiest way to pick up a party in the dunes was being a whm, and I was right. In 2 days I got my whm to lvl 18 to get my sub job up and running. At this time im a blm lvl 8 whm lvl 18. Im going to take blm to 16 then whm/blm to 30. At lvl 30 I plan on unlocking the Ranger job, but yet not playing it right yet.
Ok I am going to lvl thf up with is dagger and a bow to lvl 10. Then take war to lvl 10 with sword and x-bow. After that is done Ranger to 15 and only 15 at this time. Why? Because I want to do right by the Ranger, and to do that is to start woodworking to make gil and arrows for the ranger to live on.
Any future help from anyone would be welcome with open arms. If anyone sees a flaw in my plan please let me know. I am on Lakshmi, I think that’s how you spell it. Also on that world my name is EternalDragon. Look me help.
Thanks for your time

Only flaw in the plan is leveling WAR with a sword. If you want to level WAR past the solo levels, Axe and Shield or Greataxe PLEASE. If you want to level Sword, level RDM.
Wood is easy to level to 60 if you like, but all the Status Bolts are level 15. Status bolt heads are mostly Alchemy + Smithing, and the Smithing part is L 15 IIRC.
RNG can solo worms to well past Level 25, but that does take Gil.
If you want Gil, level THF, WAR, and THF all to 15 solo on that big hill in N. Gustaberg. Gobbies, Bats, Bees. Avoid the Sheep unless you have several Gobbiebags or want to get Leather to 4 right there on that hill cutting Sheep Wool from Sheepskins.
RNG/WAR just ROCKS.

{Um...} I never touched a one-handed axe till AFTER I unlocked PLD and came back to WAR like 4 months later. <.<; Sword worked just fine.Tsybil wrote:Only flaw in the plan is leveling WAR with a sword. /THF adds little to nothing to RNG. The main reasons for subbing THF for most people are:
1.Treasure Hunter for farming
2.Sneak Attack for weaponskill damage
3.Trick Attack for hate management (since TA when subbed has no damage bonus)
Neither Sneak Attack nor Trick Attack affect ranged attacks, and RNG aren't strong melee, so that doesn't help them much if at all.

also im looking into woodworkinga nd i hear geshas outpost or somthing like that is the best place to get wood?
There are logging points in East Ronfarue and Ghesheba Outpost.
But if you are big enough, you might try Bubu Pensulia.

Bubu has logging points? Thought it was excavation areas...
As for leveling WAR, if you don't plan on taking it past 30 or 37 then you can get away with using just one weapon (sword, axe, great axe even polearm). If you want to level it further I'd suggest keeping Axe and Great Axe capped, Sword is only good at 30 'cause of dual wield centurion swords.

Never logged at all, but I have often hunted Silk and Wind Clusters in Bubu, seen the points often enough doing that.Sugami wrote:never seen those logging points in bubu although I've never gone looking for them.
There are many places to log and the vast majority of them never see an axe.
