FFXIclopedia - A Wiki

I believe this may have been tried before, but never really worked out. My linkshell and I would like to give it a try.

What is a Wiki?
The simplest online database that could possibly work.

Wiki is a piece of server software that allows users to freely create and edit Web page content using any Web browser. Wiki supports hyperlinks and has a simple text syntax for creating new pages and crosslinks between internal pages on the fly.

Wiki is unusual among group communication mechanisms in that it allows the organization of contributions to be edited in addition to the content itself.

Like many simple concepts, "open editing" has some profound and subtle effects on Wiki usage. Allowing everyday users to create and edit any page in a Web site is exciting in that it encourages democratic use of the Web and promotes content composition by nontechnical users.

What can you put into it?
ANYTHING related to FFXI. Images, maps, quests, missions, NPCs, towns, coffer/treasure locations, Ifrit's Cauldron flame spout timing, anything you can think of.

Why?
Because you can edit it. It would be great for FFXI quests, missions, gear, etc, etc. How many times have you come across mistakes in a quest guide here on Allakhazam only to have to read through 15 comments to find what went wrong? If you find something wrong in a Wiki, you can fix it yourself.

Where?
The FFXIclopedia can be found at http://www.teamavengers.org/ffxiclopedia . There's not a whole lot in there right now, but there is some. Check it out, give it a try. Some members of my linkshell are working to populate the Wiki database so the FFXI community has something to build off of.

How?
I'm paying for the bandwidth. Use it! Visit the Wiki, create an account, log in and start editing. This can only work with help from more of the FFXI community than just my linkshell. Who?
All of you. Anyone who can donate 5 minutes of their time put any useful information into the Wiki database. If you can't think of a lot to put in, who cares? One sentence is a start. More people can build off of your one sentence and help to turn it into an excellent guide or description.

When?
Whenever you get a minute... today, tomorrow, next week? The wiki is very easy to search, and you don't, and never will, have to pay any premium fees for access to a search feature. The more people who use it, the more information that is there. And it's all created by us as a community.

Spread the word. Get 'er done. This is something that can be built by you without having to wait for a moderator, site admin, or webmaster to approve your guide. Enjoy it! This could be a great way to collaborate, but it will only work with your help.

I had a look at it and found it rather hard to find exactly what information I should give.

I mean theres just so much possible things to say that you really have to figure out what you wanna write....

I say we make one of our own... no offense Ganiman, but I don't really feel that contributing to someone else's site would really help us. If you were Allakhazam or some central FFXI database, it may be different, but another linkshell's DB... {Thanks for the offer, but I'll have to pass.}
