Racial Woes...

Post by JediKitsune »

Since I first laid eyes on the choices of race in FFXI, I had little to no clue just what I wanted. When I purchased the game, I settled on Mithra purely for aesthetics and it stuck. Recently, however, I've been having second thoughts about my choice.

I'm progressing well through with my Hades Mithra and the admittance to the LS has made me even prouder to be one, but those second thoughts still linger because I have more Content IDs that can be used.

I'm a person who likes variety, but I'm also a person who tends to play things that I'm most comfortable with. I'm certainly comfortable with a Mithra, but I find it hard to have more than one without feeling like I have the same character.

As I find myself staring at the character selection screen countless times, I find myself torn with my choice each and every time, spending hours upon hours just trying to decide my race choice. Why? Because of my indecisive ness. Each race has its merits, but Mithra has this LS. Hume Male, on the other hand, has me playing my natural gender and makes roleplaying all the easier.

I love this LS, and I love being a part of its activities, but there's that part of me still that wants more from the game. There's part of me that wants a male character, for example. The LS gets in the way, in this case. I feel like if I make something like, say...a Hume on Asura (which I did), I'll be alone again, which makes the game so much harder to keep going with. I'm not asking to join the LS with a non-mithra, I'm only asking for a little advice on just how to come to terms with myself, because this has been bothering me ever since I deleted a 'failed character' for the first time.

well as far as i can see there is no problem with wanting variety. I was very pleased to realise that FFXI has tried to incorporate variety with little boundaries.

I wanted to make a new character at one point but then i thought. "no i can just always change jobs and try something new with my character" FFXI is the only MMORPG that i know which lets you change your job class at will giving you a huge amount of variety.

Now i'm not telling you that making a new character is bad but your choices arent limited to what you can do with your current character.

Well thats my 2 cents worth i'm not sure if it was any help but thats what i found when i went through a similar stage.

ohh and i know how u feel about wanting a male character. I find it difficult at some times being a male who plays a mithra.
More barabric than Heaven.

There can be only one.

I think my problem at this point isn't the variety, it's the social aspect of choosing mithra or non-mithra, because that's what it boils down to.

My ideas are simply, "I want to be a male character, but I also want to stay close to my Mithran friends."

I'm not much of a social animal outside of FFXI, so the game is where I find it easiest to make friends. I guess that's my greatest woe is that I feel it's harder to make friends.

Well, I have 4 Mithra, a Hume Female and Elvaan Male character if it makes you feel any better. I like variety too, which is why I don't always play the same character all the time. My Elvaan male was my main character until Reyvn introduced me to MithraPride. I was just playing around with Josiejo in the Dunes, and happened to party with her. Now, I call Josiejo my main and have 3 other kitty "mules" that I use for different job paths. I realize there's a certain level of loss felt when you start a new character, given that everything you had accomplished with the first you now have to do all over again. But it doesn't mean you can't have your kitties and... eat them... too? ;)

Or rather, just go for it. Make a Hume Male if that's what you want to play as. No one but you really knows what will be the most fun for you, and you'll find that you eventually end up doing what you thought would be more fun anyway. Just make a plan for your characters and stick with it, and they should progress nicely. You don't have to level every job with your main character, and that's also a nice feature of FFXI: the choice.

I have four characters, and I have noticed that their playtime, and the size of their social circles, are closley linked. Or she with the most friends gets the most play.

Talk to your sister kitties. Ask them if they are in another good LS which they could recomend for your proposed new character. Presto, instant LS with at least one old friend in it.

I just made a new taru myself. I used to be a taru on Seraph. I love being a mithra and everything about this ls but sometimes I long for my old days.

Well, I suppose my decision can't be made just yet. I decided to delete the character and start somewhere that wasn't Bastok, and then the world pass expired. Go me.
