As everyone knows, my battle cry is "ANTI-ALLA!!" but I took the time to read through that thread. I'm not a subscriber to CGW or whatever magazine that was from but I know if I had seen that I would have demanded a full refund of my subscription ($20 goes a long way, y'know!) and immediate cessation of delivery.
I subscribe to CGW. I've been getting their mag for about 10 years now. I'm glad they got the message and are pulling the ad now. It's really Ziff Davis who was to blame not CGW as Ziff Davis are the ones who control the ad content.
The sad thing is that CGW is not the only gaming mag that is airing that ad. :/

HUH?
HELP THE ECONOMY?
Quite a majority of Gil-sellers just fish all day, and NPC their catch, introducing vast amounts of gil into the economy.
Also, the ones that camp NM's non-stop constantly bring up the prices of wanted goods. Example, I believe the Hair clan has brought the price of archers rings up a good 200k since they first invaded gilgamesh.

How would they make vast amounts of money if they sold for a higher price? They make money buy dropping prices slightly and selling massive amounts of items.
Inflation is a party of all economies and was bound to happen sooner or later. Plus gil sellers have been around since before this game was even edit: retail. /edit

What I'm saying, is that people monopolizing various drops have brought the prices wayyy up (on gilgamesh that is). O. Kotes are now 950k, and I believe that archers rings are at 450k

hmm... Colbwa, just to explain it to ya...
Fish-bots create large sums of cash by selling all the fish to NPCs. This cash is then sold by gil-sellers.
This adds money into the economy WAY faster than it is leaving it by people purchasing chocobos, and buying stuff from NPCs.
More money entering economy than leaving economy == inflation.
The more fish botting gilsellers there are, the more inflation there is.
There's contribution #1 to the inflation.
Contribution #2 comes from gil-sellers that gain exclusive access to rare drops. They're the only ones with access to the source of these items, so they can set the price. See OPEC for a real world example of this. Except that in the game, they're not worried about jacking the price too high. So they continuously jack the price up. I wouldn't be surprised if they're throwing some of the items away just to keep from flooding the market. This contributes to the rising inflation on high-end items.
Contribution #3 comes from gil-buyers. They're someone that can work 2-3 hours and buy 1mil gil. They're not that worried about getting the most out of thier money, so they buy the insanely priced goods like sniper rings that the gil-seller campers have farmed. These people buying the goods encourages the gil-seller campers to camp more and jack the prices more... yet more inflation It's a vicious cycle.
As to why inflation is bad... if the NPCs prices and quest rewards and monster gil drops were all based on the average price of an index of items in the AH, then it wouldn't be that bad.
As it is though... it really sucks to be a new player. I can see how the economy of the game was supposed to work when the game was new, and lets just say that it would have been a lot less frustrating as a newbie then.
Personally, I'm rather tempted to buy gil, I mean, heck, I could part of a day putting robots together for my friend and buy 1mil gil. Waaay way more time effecient to get my gil that way. But I think that it'll take away from the game... I want the challenge of finding new and creative ways to make my cash to fund my crafting adventures... also, I know that I'll be hurting the economy of the game yet more if I buy the gil. So I don't.
I can understand why people hate gil-sellers, they have managed to cause serious harm to the game. I find it really sad that action hasn't been taken against them... although I am hoping that this new fishing change helps slow the inflation rate by cutting the fully automated bots out of the equation.
Anyways... </rant>

New take on the childhood Fish Heads song:
fish bots, fish bots, rolly, polly fish bots
fish bots, fish bots, beat them up, *yay!*
fish bots, fish bots, rolly, polly fish bots
fish bots, fish bots, beat them up, *yay!*
ask a fish bot any thing you want to,
it wont answer, IT CANT TALK.
fish bots, fish bots, rolly, polly fish bots
fish bots, fish bots, beat them up, *yay!*
i took a fish bot out to see a monster,
couldn't wait to see it Home Point!
fish bots, fish bots, rolly, polly fish bots
fish bots, fish bots, beat them up, *yay!*
Enjoy!
