I as well have a feeling you are not telling us something. I think you are in denial and do not want to make it seem like you compromised your security.
Congratulations Lunapanshiel! You are the first winner of the FFXI Main Boards Form Letter!

this guy doesn't deserve to be helped. he deserves to be robbed a second time. god bless him.
somebody please go to allkhazam and post on this matter
I hate people who talk down to other people when they don't know what's going on. Makes them look /real/ smart. I pride myself on taking them down a few notches.
the other one was just some other person who got thiers stolen, but they actually knew the person.
and, um, after reading the thread i think there were several helpful posts. (mixed among the less helpful ones, but they were there). and you said on there you used to be friends w/ this person?
Luna, your post in there definately makes me feel like you deserved what you got. He was stating his opinion, in a civil manner, and then you were a jerk to him.
Hmmm... well there only a few ways that person could have gotten your password (all of which were posted on the thread).
If it was an easy to guess password that was the problem, make sure your password is hard to guess (like the suggestions that they gave). Also game related names are a no no like "sepiroth" "chocobo" etc.
If it was a key logger, your best bet is to reformat your computer IMHO. LOTS of dangerous data theft can accure from a key logger not just FFXI stuff. Credit card numbers etc can be stolen as well. Reformating is the way to go in that regard. Better safe then sorry.
If you are in an environment that's phycially secure (as in, no one can see you as you type in the password) a good way to set one up is to hold SHIFT while hitting a few keys in a row, then release SHIFT and hit a few more. Make an easy to remember pattern on the keyboard. Also make sure it's one that gives you a capital letter, a lowercase letter, a number, and a symbol.
For example: )O(I8u7y
This was done by holding SHIFT as I hit 0, o, 9, and i. Then I released SHIFT and hit 8, u, 7, and y. If you look at these keys on the keyboard you'll see it's a very easy pattern to remember, and the password itself is impossible to guess since it's just gibberish.
I use this technique to create my passwords. This way I get a good one that I can remember to type in everytime. I don't use the auto-save feature cause the pw has to be stored somewhere and that 'somewhere' is the registry, which can be read by people more l33t than I.
Unfortunatly, FFXI doesn't allow you to use symbols. Only numbers and letters. Why? I have no clue. This reduces the strenghth of the password, but the greatest strenghth is it's secrecy. As a substitute I use CAPS LOCK instead of SHIFT.
Lastly, just like Fight Club, never talk about your password.
/em goes to change her password since she talked about it.
(edit: forgot that FFXI doesn't allow symbols >.<)

If you dislike the Alakazam forums, do NOT go to GameFAQs. Trolling and flaming are considered art forms there. The best and worst ones get gradded on a 1 - 10 scale.
I am NOT making this up.
Red Mage 99, White Mage 50, Black Mage 75, SCH 99, Summoner 14, THF 25, BLU 25, NIN 50, WAR 18, DRK 50, DNC 49, PLD 50. Goldsmith 72 +2, Cooking 60 +2, Alchemy 41, Fishing 33, Rank 8, Windurst, Lakshmi (Garuda, I weep for you)
Red Mage 26 White Mage 11 Black Mage 12 Thief 16, Cooking 1, Rank 3, Windurst, Quez.
Oh man, Allakhazam is bad but GameFAQs is a lot worse. Sometimes I lurk on GameFAQs's boards when I need a good laugh at sheer idiocy. I used to post fairly often on Alla, but lately I've gone from poster to lurker, and now I don't even read the forums that often, mostly because the threads are all the same: "OMG Chinese gil sellers botters crappy GMs stupid noobs I hate this game I'm getting WoW EQ2 STFU gheywad craphole." The Warrior forum and the Midgardsormr forum are still decent though (dunno about the other job/server forums).
Of course, I've scanned through Alla's EQ forums, and let's just say that's where I was introduced to a whole new level of immaturity and online hate.
I go to places like that just to laugh at them. I mean, they're so ludicrous. Then again, I've seen "flame wars" happen in real life, so they really don't surprise me all that much.
