Damn! I'm rolling in exp!

Post by Fiye »

Alright. So Feburary first I started my journey as a BRD.

Three days I finally make it to Valkrum Dunes.

Four days I was in Qufim.

The next day I was done in Qufim and gather up money for any spells.

Day after, I went through Yuhtunga Jungle.

And Yesterday, I mowed through Yhoator Jungle and Garliage CItadel... naked. (With +19 CHR)

Is... this normal for a bard to be leveling this god damned fast? ((All I'm doing is pressing Ctrl+1))

Also. F*** you Baltimore

Bards get invites /anon.

It's one of the few jobs you can gimp to 75 in less then a month when you take time and noone will complain as long as you have the songs they ask for.

It has been commonly said that a BRD can get to 75 naked in a month.

Nice to know its true.

A decent Bard can add a few K exp an hour to even a crappy party.

You'd think with the addition of COR that Bard and RDM would see a drop-off in invites.

Well, they would've if...ya know...COR didn't cost so much to keep ammo in the gun...and if the buffs were as good as BRD and RDM.

Lol. I couldn't do that today even if I tried. My party today was so crappy they couldn't kill a mob before my buffs ran out. And I was using Madrigal + Minuet, and Ballad for mages, while using Finale to disbell any buffs the mob casted on itself.

You forgot to add that fact that COR can also f*** up by Busting the buff. Causing them to have a debuff. If anything, it's a good subjob for bard.

Mages Ballad 1 and 2 + Evoker's Roll = Mage's Paradise. Add in a RDM for refresh and you have a Cure every tick.

Evoker's Roll is Lv40, can't get it from a sub. Also it's a very BAD sub as you won't get job bonuses and the potency is about half of a primary COR's.

Next time you're online do a /sea all COR 75 then a /sea all BRD 75. Then try /sea all COR followed by /sea all BRD. That'll answer your question.

Bullets? Who uses those? Only the CORs that have a f***ing clue how the job works and that's about 10% of the job population.

Bust? Who risks a bust even when the odds are 1/6 to Bust and 2/3 for a better roll? Again only the CORs that have a clue *sigh*

Buffs not as good as a BRD's? (WAR + Fighter's Roll) + (THF + Rogue's Roll) > Double Attack Song.

Incidentally the only "buffs" RDM have are Protect, Shell and Haste (that are party target). RDM works differently from BRD and COR, COR works differently from BRD unless he's a fool and goes /WHM

Opps

I didn't know it was Level40.

Really? I thought having the extra two buffs (Minus the Job bonus) would still be decent. Having Minuet 2x plus the WAR roll.

I shall do that.

{Please forgive me} I live in Vegas, where the odds of busting are greater than the odds of getting a dime.

I need to do more research into the Corsair job. Its obvious I don't knows a whole hell of alot about it. Thanks for the information though.

Um...what double attack song? :?

Also Sug, I can't figure out if you're ranting that CORs are better or worse than BRDs. Since...ya know...you mentioned that basically none of the CORs do any of that stuff. <.<;;

Cast Valor Minuet 1 and 2, or 2 and 3, or 3 and 4, or 4 and 5.

Well the HOT endgame party used to be RDM + BRD + 4 melee/NIN. Now its RDM + BRD + COR + 3 melee/NIN.

Several times a forming party has asked me "Can't find a BRD, will a COR do?" Seeing as I think a SNM or WHM would work, OF COURSE a COR will do. I do not tell them this in quite that way.

Yeah I meant 2 attack songs, not a single song that doubles your attack :P

/COR like /BRD only allows you to have one buff from the sub. Given that unless you're lucky (and get the lucky number) you'll either have a half-assed gimp buff or will risk for a better roll (namely IX-XI). If you Bust you won't be able to try again for another 5mins whereas a COR main will still have one open slot to give out Rolls.
I don't remember how badly a Bust "gimps" you but the potency of a Bust when subbed is almost as potent as if it was from main COR.
Bust only gimps the COR or /COR.

Fighter's Roll is also 40+ (I think 56 but it's been a while). ALL the "good" (i.e. well liked) rolls are 38+ and therefore not subbable.

I'd go as far to say; Fighter's Roll XI + WAR > Two attack songs.
Or maybe even a Lucky number (V) instead of XI. Also replace "Fighter's" with "Rogue's" and "WAR" with "THF" and it'd still be better.

Also Evoker's + Healer's Roll > Balladx2 or Refresh (if healer is SMN or WHM). Only time this isn't the case is if there isn't much time to sit down and heal (merits much?).

What most people DON'T know is that a COR's "usefulness" is very dependant on what jobs are in his/her party. I could give Fighter's Roll and Rogue's Roll but without WAR and THF in party they mean practically sh*t. Chaos Roll with a DRK is very nice and matches two attack songs from a BRD (can probably be better if Lucky or XI).
Being a COR myself I'd have to say if you don't have either a WAR, DRK or THF in party then don't invite a COR. You'd be better off with another DD unless you need an unreliable form of Refresh.
Tsybil wrote:Well the HOT endgame party used to be RDM + BRD + 4 melee/NIN. Now its RDM + BRD + COR + 3 melee/NIN.
Good to know that with elitism comes stupidity (not calling you a stupid elitest, just the people who only want these setups :P). Replacing a DD with a COR is a loss of damage, even with an Enhanced Fighter's Roll the damage the COR brings to the table both direct and indirect does not match up to a pure DD at that level.
Doesn't bother me though, I still get the invites
Several times a forming party has asked me "Can't find a BRD, will a COR do?" Seeing as I think a SNM or WHM would work, OF COURSE a COR will do. I do not tell them this in quite that way.
You may be happy to find out that SMN and WHM make better use of a COR than RDM does (think Shirai would be anyways ). SMN get enhanced Evoker's Roll, which is really quite sexy (2-5mp/tick), and WHM gets enhanced Healer's Roll, RDM however doesn't make use of either. RDM+COR = bad combo without a healer.

Don't even get me started on subjobs, I managed to proove /WHM is always bettered by either /RNG or /NIN in every possible EXP/merit scenario on the KI COR forum.

/really ending rant this time... perhaps.

Interesting. I shall play Cor after I'm done playing around with Bard. Maybe that'll get me working on RNG and NIN as well.

Thanks Sugami for the info.

Having just a RDM+ COR set up may not be optimal but it is still very nice. With RDMs being the preferred main healers for merit parties by the unwashed masses these days any form of support is welcome.

I'm quite happy to have a BRD, COR or any type other mage that can heal in my party as long as it means I'm not trying to squeeze mp out of thin air while 5 parse happy DDs court death without consideration of my mp pool.

Be prepaired to spend lots of money.
The first thing you should do is level RNG to 20. Don't bother with Bronze Bullets just use a Sword till regular Bullets at 22. Since RNG and COR use practically the same gear you can level them both to 37 at the same time (pretty much).
