My dad's been a fighter in the SCA for longer then I've been alive. He gave me three rules.

Rule 1: Hit your opponent.
Rule 2: Don't let them hit you.
Rule 3: Luck counts.

Whenever anyone says something was luck, I always say 'Rule 3', and they give me a confused look.
