"Atoms for Peace" was the name of the program. It looked at many peaceful uses for nuke power. They did build at least one nuke powered freighter, I wonder what became of it.
Taylor's Aerocar towed its wings and tail to the airstrip and was ready to fly in 10 mins. I can think of several 4 seat aircraft of the era that got worse milage and flew slower.
