Nice tail action, flat spring?

Its a secret
But no, its a single flexible piece (no springs, all galvanized, hangs loose when detached) with vertebrae-like protrusions for the movement mechanism.
Looks real... feels real...
Its downright eerie to see it - you'll hear little kids say "It moves! It must be real!" and then one kid will asked if she could feel it (Okay, lil creepy I know) and she freaked out because it feels like a real spine underneath.
I have to build a few for friends then I might make some for other people who are genuinely interested. I'd have to ask for cost of materials at the least though.

I do like the movement. Leared the flat spring trick from watching a music video pulled from Cats. Gives nice movement when the tip is weighted, but not as good as that.
(How many hambergers DO you get for 1,000,000 yen anyway?)
There are 10s of thousands Japanise Cosplayers who would pay good yen for that tail, check out going into production.Raelia wrote:I have to build a few for friends then I might make some for other people who are genuinely interested. I'd have to ask for cost of materials at the least though.

I just bought most of the materials for my next one for $23 USD, and thats with quite a bit of extra too (100' spools of 14 gauge and 12 gauge)Leane wrote:and about how much would that be?
I might, however, be looking into patenting first.

Good idea, just avoid those "patenting services" that advertise on TV. Most make a living slowly bleeding inventors for "fees" and "servicies". Rather similar to how a bull "services" a cow.Raelia wrote: I might, however, be looking into patenting first.
Get to a copy of the Washington DC metro Yellow Pages. Look up patent searchers. Hire one to do a search. This will tell you if you have the remotest chance of obtaining one. You may be closed out by something invented in the Victorian Era, or by something like BX cable. I have done some patent searching, but cannot help you from Seattle, as the patents themself are in Crystal City VA. Most should be on line, but they all cannot be, they just come in too fast.
In the meantime, have a label made up, they cost pennies each by the thousand. On the label somewhere it should say "Patent Pending". This is legeal to use even if you have not yet taken step one toward obtaining one.

lmao, You live in Seattle (my backyard) but assume I live in DC?
Good tip on the sticker though. And yes I know about 'submit your patent to companies so they can steal and produce it and you get squat' or 'We'll get you a design patent and then tweak the design ever so slightly so as to not be in violation and then steal it'.

No, I assume the US Patent Office lives just outside of DC. OK, I KNOW this having occasionally done some patent searching for a friend in the busness. I do assume you can locate a copy of the D. C. Metro Area yellow pages.Raelia wrote:lmao, You live in Seattle (my backyard) but assume I live in DC?
All of the patent searchers live in the DC metro Area, and over 1/2 of the patent laywers.
Not how these slimeballs opperate. The vast majority of inventions are just not patentable, prior art is the term sometimes public domain. Most of the rest are unmarketable.Raelia wrote:And yes I know about 'submit your patent to companies so they can steal and produce it and you get squat' or 'We'll get you a design patent and then tweak the design ever so slightly so as to not be in violation and then steal it'.
They bleed inventors to death with the death of 1,000 fees for services. Should something prove both patentable and marketable, they will cheerfully market it for the hapless sucker for even more fees and a slice of the action.
It is far more profitable to steal someone else's milk than to steal the cow and have to feed it, care for it, and milk it yourself.

I sorta figured you meant the patent office was in DC, lol
I'm gonna poke around with a patent attorney if it doesn't prove too expensive (I've heard of a few that will co-hold it with you and let you pay them their fair share after the patent is applied and marketed and they'll turn over their co-holding, but not many)
Haha, and if it proves to even be something worth a damn (Hew wow guys, I've got a 30 pound cooler strapped to my back!)Tsybil wrote:Should something prove both patentable and marketable, they will cheerfully market it for the hapless sucker for even more fees and a slice of the action.

Patent searcher first if you have a few bucks. The first thing a patent attorney does is hire a searcher, and charge you for his time and trouble in doing so.Raelia wrote: I'm gonna poke around with a patent attorney if it doesn't prove too expensive
