Part of the reason I am not interested in PvP. It attracts people who do things like that.
In the Multiplayer war games, there is a paticular kind of PKer who will hang out at spawn points and repeatedly frag anyone who respawns while they are lagged and helpless. In PVP MMONs where you have to make a corpse run when you die, there are players who will camp the corpse.
Then there are the newb hunters.... They like to one shot low level players.

Doesn't sound like it's very well thought out. Diablo I you could get killed easily once you leave town so in II they added a system where you have to declare hostility towards a player to be able to do be able to hurt them and you need to be in town to do this. If you get hostility declared on you it comes up in writing with a loud noise.
Guild Wars PVP areas are actually battle zones like when Ballista starts and Diorama doodars. Plus obviously there's no fighting in towns and you get your own private map (shared with party members) once you leave the town so you can't be effected by random players.
