Well, for the sake of needing to rant and to be mocked and otherwise made to feel worse (my LS did a good job of that...), I figured I'd vent my hatred for the old jerk here.
I fought Maat today. All was good. I got my Opo-Opo Necklace, a stack of sleep potions, and Icarus Wing, and a few X-Potions +1... I was set. I had read every guide, memorized every strategy... and yet, I failed worse than a toddler trying to solve calculus....
Went in, Slept up to 300% TP, ran in to face Maat. The guides I read told me I could do one of two things: Hit Maat with a 300% TP Wheeling Thrust, and then use my Icarus Wing to get 100% to eliminate his wyvern when he called it; or Just wait til the wyvern spawns, use Penta on it, and use the Icarus Wing then SLAM maat with a Wheeling Thrust. Didn't work out... At all.
So I hit Maat with the Wheeling Thrust. I delt him 399 damage, and hurt him pretty good, until...
Well, He summoned his Wyvern. I tried to pop the Icarus Wing, but when I finally got it to go off, WHAM! Asuran Fists to the side of my face for 1117 damage.
Lesse a second... HP Max 1067... Just took 1117 damage... Yeah. Even at Max, that's a 1 shot kill... so down I went. Time spent in there...? 2 minutes (Sleeping) and 15 Seconds (Actual Combat). In 15 seconds of combat, with everything I needed, I lost. My LS got a good laugh at my misery... so yeah. Life is just....dandy....

My friend got wiped out by this old man more than 10 times before he could win...
Another friend is a RDM, got kicked 6 times and finally win in the 7th time.

Next to that I agree with the rest to wait till you're lvl 70.
Couple of reasons,
At 70 your stats are higher and you can equip more stuff to your advantage.
At 70 the fight is generally a lot easier also because of this.
You've only lost one time so that isn't so bad, certainly when you don't lose exp when you lose the fight.
Next to that I don't know any drg that has beaten maat on first try especially at lvl 66.
I tried at 67 on my first go, lost because 60% of his hits were critical hits and his accuracy seemed 100% on me.
Second try I went at lvl 70 and won, this time he only landed one critical hit the entire fight and he missed about 30% of the hits he tried to land on me.
So yes, I have to say those 3 levels did make a BIG difference.

RDM70 x3; Got fed up of eating Asurian Fists 5 times in total and gave up.

The main thing is to wait until 69 at least, 70 is better.
Main strategy for DRG is to use DEF gear and food, so JSE or Barone, and have a sub that has elemental breaths for wyvern. I know your sub gets "removed" but your wyvern still does the breaths. I went as /BLM (dunno why) and didn't get the breath attacks. Also Blink Band is a handy
SH if you have it or can borrow it, if you have Snipers remove them you don't want any DEF-.
Sleep up to 100%, any more if you like, run in Jump and High Jump and wait until he pops his wyvern. Jump macros don't seem to work so do it manually. After he pops wyvern do Super Jump and unlock target. When you hit the ground Penta Thrust his wyvern without changing target and look away from Maat. He'll be fighting your wyvern now so let them fight for a bit otherwise you'll pull hate back almost imediately (like me).

Why does everyone say "Wait till 70"?
Fighting Maat at RDM 67 I found out he is the same level you are. The strongest spell he had was Water III, same as I.

To add further insult to injury, my LS made fun of me like no one's business. It was salt to the wound. I had to get my testimony by myself, and it wasn't easy. I worked so hard for that testimony, and took every last drop of my money had been farming for so long, all 20M gil, and what's funny, I didn't spend much of that on myself. My LS kept asking me for things, and like a gullible sap, I did it.
Ochiudo's Kote for that guy, SH for that guy, two breeze rings for that guy... Hey look! 20M gil spent, and I didn't get anything out of it! -.- was that fair? No. No it wasn't.
Do any of you honestly believe this whole rant was about losing to Maat once? Only partially. It was the 15 seconds of battle that murdered me, my LS's adding salt to the wound, and the fact that I had to borrow 500k from someone to buy supplies for a fight that I wanted to win to earn my own personal redemption! But you know what? I failed. I failed in that. So , lemme just wrap this up and call off this thread, ok?

As to Maat, I agree with everyone else, don't feel bad. Only reason I didn't go down just as quick is because PLD doesn't do enough damage right off the bat to trigger the Asuran Fists spam. Btw, 1/8 on him myself as PLD. My 7th try against him he spammed Asuran Fists 8 times straight. 1 time hit me, I used {Invincible}, and he did nothing but Asuran Fists from that point on. 8 times in a row.
Seriously tho, if you farm up that much money again, don't spend it on everyone else. If your LS (which I sincerely hope is not an MP shell you're referring to) is that damned asinine towards you, I'm suggesting a new shell. That shell is doing nothing but taking advantage of you and then turning around and being asswipes. ~.~

I made this whole thread because I needed some place to vent. Granted, that wasn't a very bright thing, but I figured maybe I would get some helpful advice, which I did, all of which says the same thing (Do it at lvl 70, In Barone, with a Colossial Lance... which I'll never be able to afford, since a full set of Barone is now over 40M and the Colossial Lance is over 3M on Remora now...).
I'm used to being used. The moment I get money, and someone finds out, they take advantage of me. I'm an extremely gullible and weak minded person (Maybe that's why my Mnd score is unusally low...). I never say no, and I work hard for nothing.
I talked with the 4 major Drg on Remora and asked them for advice about Maat. All of them told me the same thing. "Maat's kind of a wimp for Drg. Just bring a few healing items, and a SH, and be sure to kill his wyvern QUICK and you'll waste him." Yeah... Kinda funny that that doesn't apply to me.
I'm sorry that this rant is just a pathetic outcry of someone feeling like a moron over a single loss. And as for my shell, I kind of agree -.-; but unfortunately, the MP shell is usually empty, so it provides no comfort when you really need it.

I know very few people who beat Maat 1st try. Sucks you went down in 15seconds, I think that's a record!
So maybe next time you can beat him that fast

I lent gil ONCE.. 3 million...He said he would pay me back. I said, you've bought me lotsa pretty things, how about let's make this item I'm lending you gil for a gift from both of us and YOU be sure to take me on any BCNM or KSNM runs you do. He agreed. Guess how many bc/ks runs I've done w/ him? NONE (mind you i have well over 2 stacks of each type of seal too)
Lessons to learn: Don't lend gil to anyone because odds are you won't see it again. Don't buy costly gear for anyone, unless you knew them IRL before playing the game. That way you can share.

I entered the BC nude. Re-equipped my gear, rested... pro/shell..rest..stoneskin, blink...rest... Off I ran.
All you have to do to win as WHM is survive. What I hated was not getting to hit him back. I just had to stand there and take it. The banish, the dia, the punches. Just had to smile and take it, even though I wanted badly to HIT HIM BACK!
I lost & decided to wait until I got the next Shell spell (at 68 I believe) before I tried again. That seemed to do the trick because my 2nd try I won. That and I went and solo'd things to work on timeing for flash. I would almost suggest going in for a trial run with no meds and see how you do. Just to get your feet wet. Well, for anyone who hasn't fought Maat yet.
Note: For any RDM kitties on Leviathan, I get a lot of RDM testimony in sky off sprinklers...A LOT...

My gear for Maat: JSE head, hands, legs & feet (that's Dragon stuff), Assault Jerkin and Cermet Lance +1. I was 69 so Barone wasn't available and I probably only had the legs at the time, which has less DEF than the JSE.
JSE is generally cheap ('cept the body which is never for sale) since it is useless crappy armour with only one purpose (Maat).
I've seen a video of a SAM go down in 15seconds or less, he walks in and eats Asuran Fists twice was quite funny to watch but you do feel for him
