Subjobs, Advanced Jobs, etc.

Hey all.

I have a question about subjobs...

I know that in order to get a subjob, you have to be lvl 18. But does that mean it has to be lvl 18 in ONE job?

For example, could I lvl MNK to 14 and WAR to 4?

If it has to be a target level in a single job, does the same apply to other level requirements such as Chocobo Licenses, Advanced Jobs, Mentor Program, etc?

level requirements apply to the job you are when you receive the quest. In other words you need to be a lvl 18 job to get the subjob quest, lvl 20 to get the chocobo quest, lvl 30 to be a mentor and get the advanced job quests, etc. Some even require you to be a certain job too, like the mini avatar fights, you must be a lvl 20 summoner, and for the AF quests you need to start them as the job you want to get the armor. I hope this makes things clearer.

Little known fact, you can get the Subjob quest in either Mahara or Selbina.

If you have help, the Mahara side is far quicker. Wild Rab Tail, Dhamel spit (yuck), Bloody Robe. The reasons everyone does it on the Selbina side; everyone is there already, you EXP on two of the mobs that drop items, and an EXP party can take on Ghouls. The Bloody Robe on the Mahara side is dropped by Ghost types. A L 17 - 20 EXP party CANNOT take these on. But they drop maybe 2 out of every 3 kills, unlike the Skulls.

A L 18 RDM can solo 2 of the mobs on either side, a RDM + MNK pair can probably take down Ghouls at L 18.

From what I've heard, the Bogys in Buburimu Peninsula are weaker than the ones in Valkurm, so a party could take one on if they were really good.

I'm sure you're right...however I've NEVER come across a decent party in Hydra. It's driving me insane.

Most of it has been explained here already indeed,
but what I don't see is something you must know as well.

Attaining your subjob means that you also have to maintain it.
Your subjob will not level up with your main job so you have to level that as well.
Meaning when you get your subjob you have to level it seperately as well.

Example:

Your monk reaches lvl 18 and you do the quest.
You can attain your subjob now.
You want to sub war but that's only level 4 at the moment.
You go back to your starter city and you choose to sub warior.
You'll be a level MNK18/WAR4.
To cope the warrior subjob you'll have to lvl that as well, taking it up to 10 if you want to get monk to 20 in the Dunes.
But for leveling warior it's a lot easier now since you can sub monk on it.
Leveling your subjob can now be done as WAR4/MNK2.

In the beginning it's not a big problem if you have a subjob that's not completely leveled, but it will pose a problem at later levels because certain jobtraits and abillities you gain from your sub can be very useful for your main job.

Bogeys are mostly the same level anywhere, and can drop the Blody Robe most anywhere as well.

On Midgard Goldy got me my Blody Robe in the Gusgen Mines.

Thier is a faster way to get the skull. Go to gusen mines in the highlands. Take a high lv with to kill the skeltons in there. There are not enough Skeltons in the dunnes to get your skull quickly and tehy disapear at 5 am. The one in the mines are there all the time. You stand near the enterance a wite for the high lv to get the drop for you.

I think it may be easier to go the Selbina route if you're just gonna have a high level do it for ya, speaking as having been that high level person a couple of times...

The last time I did it for a person, took me 2 hours to get that damn skull to drop.....I....hate.....skeletons....

If you have the help, the Mahara side is just so much quicker.

Last time I did it, I had the Tail with 4 or 5 rabb kills and the Dhamel spit on my first Dhamel Kill. And that was solo as RDM 18. OK, I ran from about five Dhalmels before I finally killed one, but still....

On the Selbina side you had to compete for the Crabs and Flys with EXP parties, but there are few enough now that it isn't a problem. Still think about the Kill / drop ratio on Aprons and Worms. Plus the Bloody Robe is a far easier drop than the Skull.

Lots of Ghost type monsters can drop the robes. They kinda fall into your lap if you look at a Ghost mob the wrong way...

I was helping someone get their skull in Gusgen, and after 2 hours of fighting Ghouls without a drop, I attacked a Bogy instead and got a Bloody Robe the first try.

Then I helped the person get to Buburimu Peninsula and killed a couple of dhalmels and rabbits for the other two ingredients... it went much faster that way, even with the 15 minute boat ride

Well, I finally got my subjob...being a Shellholder seriously keeps me from lvling as fast as I'd like.

Not that I'm complaining, but DANG! I want a Chocobo!
