Vincent or Barret as my 3rd person in party?

i played FF7 a while bac before by playing several different files from my uncle's memory card with FF7
i had no idea what the story was about so i didnt care
i was 8 years old at that time...
and now i have my own copy and playing it on my ps2
LOVE IT
and now im at the point where im about to get vincent from the Nibelheim mansion basement...
so should it be vincent or barret on the third person as "damage dealer"?
the reason why i bring this up because they seem kinda similar in a way but i wouldnt know wich ismore useful for damage

well both have their pros and cons.barret's got more strength and vitality so he can dish more abuse and take more,but vincent has better agility and magic abilities.and vincent's limit breaks are just so f***in awesome! heheheto.Barret is one of the most versatile chracters to use.he has weapons for both close and long range so he does well in either position.keep barret in the back most of the time to enable him to do heavy damage and not take an equal amount at the same time.
basically dont give barret alot of materia that reduces hp cus he'll be a damage magnet later,and plus his magic abilities are crap.(in my opinion and in my games with how i develope him).Vincent is a strong fight,alot like vincent.he also does good with magic and since all his weapons are long range you'll be keeping him in the back row at all times,unless ya want him to die XD.his limit breaks may be a bit unpredictable at times but they are insanely powerfulespeacially his lvl 4 limits chaos(and my fav by the way).tho galian beast is pretty cool too.turns into a humanoid behemoth hehehe.anyway,in my games i develope vincent to be a high physical/magical attacker,but i try to keep his defensive abilities up to par so he doesnt get one shotted by some random monster.so basically what i'm saying is both make a great addition to your battle party

just the kind if answer i was looking for.
and definetely vincent is what i was looking for since that's what
i thought his skills would be like,
and i have cloud as a "tank" using cover so hopefully he wont get pounded
and btw my 2nd is Tifa after cloud which is totally awesome already

cloud tifa and vincent make a pretty good well rounded party.clouds well rounded stats make him perfect for any role in battle,tifa's speed lets her get many turns in so she can be a dot DD and vincent can be a nuker/ranged attacked and back up tank so to speak

I can't say I ever used Barret much. His long range was good, but I'm generally magic-heavy so I never found much use for him.

My pretty much static set-up for most of the game was Cloud (duh), Red XIII, and Vincent or Cid.

Red was always good for magic and he could dish some other damage if needed, and Vincent was pretty much the same way but with long range as well. Cid just kinda... kicked ass.

Hmm.. thanks for reminding me about this...

Anyone remember how to do that Knights of the Round / Mimic trick? ya know the one where character 1 uses KotR and everyone else mimics it for uber damage?

I think you have everyone equip Mimic Materia with the person that has a first strike ability or highest speed rating start the fight. Then start with KotR and then the mimics follow.

Been too damn long since I played. Check on GameFaqs.com I'm sure they have pages of materia setups that get you cool stuff like that. That's where I found a level 99 guide for Parasite Eve.

I used Cloud, Red & Vincent most often. On Vincent I had HAdes added effect (Think It was Hades....whichever one added pretty much all the status effects), Cover, Counter, First Strike, double-attack?, and I dont remember what else at the moment, but basically he was my tank from the back-row, and attacked non-stop as soon as the battle begun & F***ed regular mobs over so bad.
Though Tifa & Cid are good as well I never ever liked Barret. Red was my mage/healer & Cloud my heavy hitter/summoner.
Pwned Ruby with these 3 btw. Vincent on pretty much auto-attack and takin most o the damage, Red curing, revivin, and reraise? (Phoenix), while I held Clouds turn to time his strikes or summons for max-effect.
