do you think in the hours of waiting for an invite how much exp you would get by going solo?

well, depends on the job. As my 29dragoon/whm i tend to get about 600 or so xp in like half an hour. As my 42thief, i get about 200 xp in an hour and a half....and I never get parties, so pretty much the best xp i get is from ballista, believe it or not. But then you're not in the right area for party invites...so my two choices with thief are: solo in rolanberry hoping for the offchance of a party, or go to ballista and get more xp and have even smaller chance of a party

As a RDM I can solo DCs, Evens, and with preperation Ts.
A solo T fight can easly take over 5 mins, drain most every resource I have and leave me down and healing to recover most of my HPs and all of my MPs. This in an area where things that are T to a level 58 RDM live.....
So we are looking at 10 - 15 mins for 120 EXPs.... say 10 EXPs/min. Not great.
Even bigger Easys at my level take a while to go down If I do most of the damage with melee weapons to conserve MPs. If I use a lot of MPs, I can take about two for each convert, and they go a lot faster, but I then need to rest. So easys get me 60 - 80 EXPs in 5 mins, say 15 EXPs/min, maybe 20.
It doesn't pay for farming, lousy drops do to not having /THF, it doesn't pay off in EXPs, but every now and then I go off hunting solo for sheer sport.

its wierd how it says easy prey and it can still kill you..>< but then you'll need really good armor and weapons right? wouldn't it be bad if you were killed by a too weak to be worth while monster? i mean not on purpose but i mean accidentaly,specially if its a bunney. o.o;

Wha? At 75, you start being able to earn merit points. I think every 1,0000 EXP (that's ten thousand, I'm deciding to use the Japanese way of organizing number to confuse you), you get one merit point, which you can then use to selectively increase a specific stat, skill, or job ability.Yugi wrote:oh..when your lv 75 whats the exp status thing?

once you hit 75 your experience points will read x/44,000. this number acts as a buffer for your deaths etc, you can still delevel from 75 so it's important to work in both modes. Once you speak to the moogle standing next to maat in ru'lude gardens a new option opens in your moghouse under status. this allows you to switch to "limit" points instead of experience points. Limit points are what gives the total out of 10,000, each time u fill the 10,000 quota you are awarded a merit point. You can hold up to 10 merit points at a time and spend them in your moghouse to raise (or lower) different attributes, some which are specific to your job others which affect every job; for instance i have raised my critical hit rate and dexterity recently and this shows on all my jobs. Certain areas cost more than 1 merit point to raise however suchas DEX which is 2 for the first one then increases to 3. If you change your mind you can lower the level of a particular area and gain the merit back. It's alot of fun and goes to show that level 75 is not finite

as for the solo experience points thing, i often do solo between parties, and at 74/75 wasps in ifrit's cauldren are great xp solo, to a THF they can be killed in less than 1 minute for i think 48xp. not quite the xp party kinda amounts but still passes time and i find myself doing this alot lately in xp mode to push up my buffer into 75 and finish off merits. You cant swap modes unless you're inside moghouse and over level 75 so doing this allows me to work in both modes and make the most of my time

anyways, hope this helps yugi^^, nice to see you're still around

Yup at lvl75 you can build a 44k exp buffer, and next to that you can switch to limit points.
It is indeed advisable to build a exp good buffer, as you still lose exp and not limit points at lvl 75 when you die and Raise III is not always guaranteed. (Raise 1 and HPing are the only option at some times. 2400 exp loss = ouch
)
Expect to die a lot during missions, Dynamis, NM battles and other stuff.
(lost 5.5k exp in one night, believe me that hurts.)
Like others said, work on both.
As for what to do with Merit points when you get them, choose wisely.

As lvl 51 whm I find it particularly hard to solo and get exp. There is lots of stuff that I can solo but I get little or no xp for it.

Teehee. Some jobs, it gets harder to solo as you get higher level, not so with Drg...
And those shiny new rings for the EXP bonus. Would you rather have Chariot for a 75% bonus for 80 minutes? Or Empress for a 50% bonus for 160 minutes? I would pick Empress myself. If the party is lasting inbetween 80 and 160 minutes, it's probably not worth me using the ring anyways. Might as well go for the longer lasting one, get more Exp over time.

As RDM I have always been able to solo mobs with EXPs. However the fights take longer and longer. EP Elementals hardly raise a sweat, but I can get three or four Aspir / Drains on them now. When I was in my 20s, a DC Elemental took way less time than an Easy one takes now.Cyndari wrote:As lvl 51 whm I find it particularly hard to solo and get exp. SOLO: Full HP and TP at the start, no joke, It helps to keep rampage going constantly in the battle.
SOLO W/ NPC: With Sahyu, I can go at about 800ish HP out of my 1100ish HP. Since Sahyu is Healer, I usually keep all the hate and rarely does that elemental ever cast a ga spell on us, usualyl its sahyu casting silence slow cure III etc. It helps to build TP up aswell.
this still in the long run is worth only 20exp, and so not worth it to me. sans the crystal drops which is why i even bother with them.

as for WHM, i wonder if you could take /RDM and some drinks, and maybe try kiting bones? if not maybe experiment with /NIN and dual clubs on them if stoneskin + utsusemi is gr8 defensive combo, i know some WHMs that sub THF too sometimes for SA + energy drain type stuff although i cant really see THF helping u through dc or higher battles; but then i really despise /THF

Well I have found that WHM/BLM works best for me soloing as pointed out earlier though the real issue is that it takes forever to solo. And I also might be lacking because at my level EMs I have 40/60 chance of winning and DCs are 50/50. DCs really dont give me decent xp.
I dunno I must be doing something wrong.

I dont think u should let it bother u, WHM is notoriously slow to solo and whereas with THF i can take anything up to tough fairly safely and fast i will often die to easy prey as WHM
Although i am a fairly weak WHM. I guess really your main concern as a WHM as with alot of tank type jobs is being able to damage your prey reliably since this is your weakest area, aside from this i dont really know what to suggest, although you may find duoing with a DD of some kind will get you some reasonable xp and give you an opportunity to skill up. I often duo with a WHM friend of mine for this reason, duoing even match is what i find best all round.

those gobbue leech things in Zi'Tah were fun, they did some nasty dmg to me, but I had them down to half life jsut as fast, plus Sahyu healed me... woooo still not worth the 20 exp per mob, but it got me to halfway to 58, so im not complainin there.

I gotta admit this is a really interesting topic, what is a breeze for one job is hell to another. Leeches are horrific to THF at any level even dc leeches can turn very nasty very fast in my experience, and on top of this they drain and have some seriously high HP i think for THF vermin have to be the easiest, bees damselfly spider etc die very quickly and dont resist anything, gobs are pretty good too since i started macroing in a narasimha's vest for the bomb tosses etc.
