There's also another fun trick you can do to keep from dying from whatever sort of HP-draining effect you have. Go find an NPC, preferrably one that prompts a dialogue box or says multiple lines of stuff, and just sit in mid-conversation with them (not hitting enter to let them keep talking or finish talking). I'm somewhat sure that the poison/dia/whatever timer still goes, but your HP won't drop while you're talking. All I know is that I've been on low HP with poison, talked to the outpost guy in Ronfaure, left it there for a minute or two, then finally exit conversation only to have poison wear off the moment after.Crispleaf wrote:I always carry a stack of echo drops with me and I encourage all mages to do the same. As for being poisoned without Poisona... a little trick is to cast Stoneskin or Earthen Ward on yourself... and you can heal even while poisoned. This also works for Dia, Rasp, and other such annoying spells that damage you over time.
I so hate the dunes....

This does suspend the effects of the poison, but it also suspends its duration. Even if you wait 10 minutes, once you stop talking to the NPC, the effects of the poison will resume where it left off.JediKitsune wrote:There's also another fun trick you can do to keep from dying from whatever sort of HP-draining effect you have. This is useful to know, though, if you need time for a mage to recover mp or to run over to cure you before you fall over dead.
Another funny thing I've seen with NPCs was in Sea Serpent Grotto. I was escorting someone for the Utsusemi: Ichi quest when they got aggro from a crab. I slept the crab and we continued to the NPC where my friend went into a cutscene.
A few moments later, I heard the crab that I'd slept tearing up behind us while my friend was still in the cutscene, itching for a fight. But when it reached my friend, it just stopped and waited. That was very considerate of it

As a side note, a Blk/Rdm is considered an equally viable set compaired to Blk/Whm. The sub Whm is generally preferred, but Rdm has its upsides.
I'm a Rdm/Blk, and I've found that in a party, a caster doesn't need things like Blink for the most part. He's not going to get hate, so it's only for those times when getting hate seems likely (main healer or nucking frequently.)
Blk enfeebles use the Enfeeble skill, so if you're a Rdm, main, then your enfeebles will stick. If you're a Rdm sub to a Blk main, your Enfeeble skill will still usually be quality, and you can expect to enfeeble pretty well with the appropriate gear.
A Rdm sub means you have a different focus, and are a back up healer at best, but in Dunes, that's a granted. A Rdm sub will still be your primary enfeebler, most likely, with good nukes, and backup cures on par with any other Cure.

but also a smn sub wil give mor int than rdm, and will give more mp than either
it needs a goblin poking at the body with a sword as well... and maybe a dragonfly trying to take the one arm off. then it would be complete i think...KarouKaniyashia wrote:

lmao its great!!!
It'd have to be a whole train worth of leeches, they always seem to breed instantly whenever a baby blm casts an AOE spell.

I am fairly new, both my jobs are still dunes-level, but I've watched the game played for over a year. My fiance is high-level, but he takes lowbie jobs out with me and we try every time to put together a party in Buburimu. We like it much better than the Dunes, mainly because there's no competition for monsters. It is *so* hard to put together a party out there though; we have to make a sales pitch for it to every player we ask. The monsters there don't have such bad AoE's for the most part either. People just don't realize that there are other options than the dunes.
Any suggestions for Qufim alternatives?
I played a war on my fiance's account before I got my own (I'm a whm/blm now) and the first time I was ever in the dunes I got killed 5 times by the same star bat...

THe other three zones ouside Jeuno have compreble level monsters, and there are slimes and Crabs in Korokola Tunnel.
Try Sarumowhatever Champain or Battila Downs to 22 or 23, then Defkult's Tower to 25.

I remember going out to {Battalia Downs} around 24-25ish and fighting the Tigers there near the {Eldieme Necropolis} zones.Tsybil wrote:THe other three zones ouside Jeuno have compreble level monsters, and there are slimes and Crabs in Korokola Tunnel.

Was good exp too.

When I first started playing, and there were hundreds of people in Windurst starting out themselves, Kolshushu was a thriving place for parties.Kyriae wrote:My fiance is high-level, but he takes lowbie jobs out with me and we try every time to put together a party in Buburimu.
...
Any suggestions for Qufim alternatives?
People would even suffer the age-long boat ride to Mhaura just to party in Tahrongi, Shakrami, and Buburimu instead of partying in the insufferable Dunes.
The Maze of Shakrami was a great place for experience because of the Maze Makers in there. You'd always get 200xp a kill, and if you got in over your head, all you had to do was run away a short distance because the worm couldn't follow you.
Buburimu was great too. Mandies were even easier to polish off than those in the jungle. Then you could move on to birds and gobs when they became too easy, and finally it was on to the Bull Dhalmels.
I've had fantastic parties out there. Now they're just havens for solo beastmasters and summoners (and rangers in the case of the Maze).
For Qufim alternatives, some people level off of worms in Korroloka Tunnel by Bastok in their low 20s.
