Do you hate the windows key?

If your tired of crashing out of FFXI cause you accidently hit the windows key, well heres a useful link for you http://www.bytegems.com/ihatethiskey.shtml

I just downloaded and installed it yesterday. It seems to work rather well, I can still use the windows key in regular programs, but in FFXI it does nothing, No more crashes! =^.^=

I love the avatar. Very nice work.

IHateThisKey is cool, but I need it to block alt-escape too... it's better than nothing though ^^

I've known about IHateThisKey for some time (FireMyst told me soon after the beta ended, we've known each other for quite some time before the FFXI beta even began. I trust him and wish I'd known of that proggy before beta ended, believe me.)

Anyway, if you'd like a sig pic too, let me know! Two of my friends from another board, Malango (Click here for an example of one of his--he just did that one for me for some other boards I'm on) and Aquila Hawk (he did my sig that I'm usin' here! I'll get a new one when I get a retail chara) told me they'd be glad to do sig pics for the pride. (Neither one will be playin' FFXI for a while...Malango's a Brit, and Aquila's comp can't handle FFXI). I'd be more than glad to get anyone in touch with one of them...depending on who you like.

For some reason, the Windows key does not kick me to desktop when I play FFXI. Probably cause I'm using Win2000.

What I'd rrrreally love would be a moving gif that has a cat, something similar to this one. Cause this one is sooo kawaii ^^

I PM'ed ya the contact info for Malango (he did that Garnet sig)

I'll be asking one more person-- if I can nail her feet to the floor-- if she'd be willing to do sigs for us too -- Samus. So far, haven't had much luck catching her. (I won't go volenteering anyone to do sigs here unless they've actually told me they're willing. Hey, maybe we'll see a certain Brit in the pride one day, you never know! Or maybe a hawk? If he gets a better laptop?)

And if anyone else wants a sig, just ask me and I'll send you the contact info for either Malango or Aquila Hawk. (or if you get me on MSN or AIM, I'll introduce you to the one of your choice personally)

Also, I'll see if I can talk to both of them (and Samus, IF she says she'll do siggys for us) and get a few more examples to put on a web page so you can see others they have done, not just ones for me. (Aquila might do it himself; he does web pages!!)

(Soon as I get it arranged, expect a sig shop thread to join the avatar shop thread in Announcements! I'll be putting contact info for each sig artist on their respective pages as well)

Just to let everyone know. The last patch disabled the windows key for everybody while ingame. No more "I Hate This Key" needed.

Alt+Tab still kills the connection.

Wish you could do go out without the session dying but oh well.

I can't really test because I found a registry hack to diable Alt-Tab....

Very soon you will be able to. I'll be posting the tool on my site that allows you to alt+tab, answer your PMs and other messages that seem to always flood in when youre playing the game.. then you can alt+tab back into the game and it'll still be waiting for you =^ . ^=

and.. it does all this without altering or modifying the game itself.

Sounds similar to EverQuests EQ Windows program that people used for a few years before EQ finally broke down and let people run EQ in a window.

I think a few people did manage to get banned for using it, because you weren't supposed to use any programs that effected EQ at all.

Wether or not Square will try and fight back against this program, who knows. What is Squares policy on any programs that work in conjunction with FFXI anyways?

Anyone got the link to the program that takes better screen shots?

You can do a search for fraps.. I haven't used it and don't really know much about it.. I guess people use it for recording video and for getting higher res pics. I'm not sure about the legality of it since it doesn't include the FFXI copyright info :/

As mentioned, the tool itself makes no adjustments or changes on the POL or FFXI programs or libraries themselves; but rather it modifies the DirectX environment... so technically, this tool doesn't do a single thing to FFXI or POL, and therefore, is not in violation of the EULA or TOS for anything. It's just a system enhancement for those few of us who really do need to be able to check messages mid-game.

Yea... we mean like messages from AOL Instant messanger, Yahoo instant Messanger, ICQ, MSN Instant Messanger, or even IRC. Stand-alone clients that are not intergrated within the game.

Guess it would make sense to lock this thread... seems that an update in POL now does not allow for minimizer programs without altering the files from FFXI. Its actually been this way for some time now (like since march?) and the start button doesnt make the computer crap itself anymore, as that was a widley large complaint for SE to fix.

so how 'bout it admins? Wanna lock this thread for us?
