Yes and no. During levels 30-55ish I would say that a Red Mage's most important stats are MP, INT, and MND. You want to get your MP as high as possible, especially once you have Convert. And you want to keep INT and MND up so you can keep sticking your enfeebling spells.
The RSE legs and hands are great pieces of equipment for a rdm and you should stick with them until you get your AF. They give you a combined +48 MP, +3 MND.
Your body piece you'll probably want to change. If for nothing else to get horny Elvaan to stop asking for a {Mithra} {hand} {job}.
If money's an issue, I'd recomend a Mage's Robe (lvl 38, 25 DEF, MP+3, INT+1) or a Royal Squire's Robe (lvl 40, 26 DEF, MP+10)
Your RSE feet aren't going to help you much but there's not much in the way of good, mage footgear before you get your AF. You'll probably end up with your Savage Gaiters until level 52 anyway.
As far as accesories, get two MND+ rings and two INT+ rings and macro them to switch back and forth according to what you're casting. At level 43 get a Red Cape and at level 40 get two Electrum Rings (Converts 20 HP to MP) if you don't already have Astrals. Stick them on your convert macro so it reads:
/equip ring1 "Electrum Ring"
/equip ring2 "Electrum Ring"
/wait 1
/ja Convert <me>
/wait 1
/ma "Cure III" <me>
This way that Cure III spell is paid for by the MP you gain from the Electrum Rings. Then as soon as you cast another spell, your MND or INT rings pop on but you've already spent that extra 40mp to heal yourself.

The extra MP, MND and VIT are very welcome atributes until you get to wear your AF.
They will indeed last you until then, and even after that.
The reason I choose AF are the extra -1 Emnity for the legs and +15 Healing magic skill and Emnity -4 for the hands because later on it get's really hard for a tank to keep the hate on him.
And if we whm manage to get hate our HP is in yellow with 1 or 2 hits.

For EXP parties I wear the Royal Squire's Robe for the 10 MPs, and a Brigadine for meleeing.
Head, Electrum Hairpin, Mercanary Captain's Headgear. I really should carry an Erudite's Headband for the INT +1, but don't.
Neck, Holly Phial, Black Neckerchief.
Hands, I swap in Battle Gloves for Melee when I can melee in EXP parties. Need the Acc + then. Hardly ever get to melee in them anymore though.
Waist, Mercanary Captain's belt. Must check out the Life Belt VERY soon.
Rings, Mana and Electrum, 2 Ermite's, Saintly and Windurstian.
Ears, Enhancing, Black, and Cunning Earrings
Weapons. Wand +1 for general casting (Forget its name), Buzzard Tuck for melee, Fencing Dengen (AF 1) for Converting. I never seem to use the San d'Oria Dagger anymore.
