This is why I hate 3D cats. I go to a house that's just cuddly with cats... I do NOT make eye contact, I do not meow at them or anything. I just ignore them. The rest of the humans will go 'nyan', 'awww', 'kawaii' or try to feed them stuff. I'll go to another room and sit... then all the cats will, one by one, come to me and try to sit somewhere on me...

Everyone else is going "Here kitty, come here!" while holding out some dead fish or worse... and they come to me instead...

Dumb cats, if I wanted to be vibrated... uh.. nevermind.

One general rule when it comes to cats.

They will always come to you when you:
- Have a great disliking to them.
- Are afraid of cats.
- Have cat allergies.

You can keep them away by wearing something citronella based, cats really dislike the smell of it, and it keeps mosquitos at a distance too..

The proper way to say hello to a cat.

Hand held low, palm up, make a slow motion finger snapping move.

Then ignore the cat.

Aim foot at feline. Extend foot suddenly and with force.

Obtain large, non-feline fluffy object with potential asphyxiating traits (a pillow), aim at approaching feline and let fly the cotton in polyester.

But what works best for meow is a spray bottle. It doesn't even have to be 'loaded'... just "well-used" and of "known" (to the cat) quality.
