Some important BLU Notes

Post by angelstar107 »

I decided to do my homework and take some notes on BLU since I'm leveling it. These are kinda important to remember, so listen up.

When you equip a BLU spell (After learning it) There is a time delay that must elapse before you can cast ANY BLUE MAGIC! This time frame is anything between 10-30 seconds. I haven't isolated it yet.

BLU is the most unique class thus far, because of the many affecting stats it uses. So far, /war and /whm seem to be the best options at this time, but /blm, /thf, and /nin all seem workable at later levels. I'll look into these three after 24, when I have more play.

Learning spells is not easy. As a matter of fact, you will often times find that, while soloing, you need to engage monsters that are just about to become Too Weak. The major spells you will want are Pollen, Sprout Smack, and Cocoon.

What I have confirmed about these three abilities is this. Pollen is a MND affected skill with abilities that rival Cure, with the same cost and casting times. It's your BLU Cure spell that nearly negates the need for /whm. Sprout Smack should be used RIGHT AFTER your first attack. As in within split seconds. This inflicts a powerful slow on the enemy, and will often times make the deciding factor in a fight. This ability need only be used once per fight. Cocoon is unique. It gives you a very high Def bonus, which I have calculated to be roughly 1/2 of your current Def bonus, but I will fully confirm this after 10-20. Cocoon is very very useful in staying alive.

Like all Blue Magic, each spell gives you bonuses to your stats if they are set. Combinations of these skills and armor will often make a BLU feel ungodly strong.

If you follow these notes, getting through 10 will be easier than you can imagine. Just remember that once you start partying, every few levels, you'll wanna go get your next skills. See the Blue Mage Spell Listing post for more information on those spells.

Edit: Just a special survival tip I wanted to add here. DO NOT USE WEAPONSKILLS! Reason is pretty simple. First off getting TP as a BLU is super easy, but! Using it all the time denies you a "Savior Attack". The "Savior Attack" is your WS saved for a moment where you need to quickly turn the tide of battle (Links, monster suddenly getting super strong...). Save your TP! You'll be thankful that you did.

Thanks for the info!

I had to take a break from the love of my life (PUP) because the new frame I want I can't get because the items needed are in short supply so I tried BLU.

So far I'm level 3 and I learned "Foot Kick."

I just hope other BLU's are diligent when it comes to learning their spells. It won't matter how high level your BLU is if you don't know any good spells.

Frames and heads are upgraded from the Galka in the shop. Go in to talk to him as a level 10 PUP for your first frame upgrade, which I'm waiting to get the stuff for now.

lv 6 Blue mage

got Foot Kick, Sprout Smack, Wild Oats, Pollen, and Cocoon...

Wild Oats and Sprout Smack give the Beastkiller job trait

trying to get Metallic Body.. but the crabs are being buggers and not coughing it up.

Same story with Power Attack and Sandspin....

the mobs hate me..

Heh think that's bad my friend is lv8ish and has only learnt Cure and Dia  I don't think I'll unlock and level this job, seems a bit too tedious for my liking.
Any idea what influences how quickly you learn abilities or is it just random?

You have to see the ability used, you have to survive the battle, and you have to gain SOME experience from the monster's death.

As for ease of learning, it has been confirmed that a higher Blue Magic Skill makes learning a lot easier. I spam "Foot Kick" on mobs while guzzling juice to cap mine.

I didn't really want to play BLU initially because of all the running around to get spells, but I guess it isn't that bad. I've got a bunch learned already, and I was especially proud of myself yesterday when I *finally* got Metallic Body after mass crab genocide.

Fun fact about BLU: You can learn spells above your current level if they're within... I wanna say 5 or so levels of yours, you just can't use them. For example, I'm Lv.9, but I managed to learn Sheep Song, which is Lv16.
