Actually I'm curious on how this will stand in a courtroom and under what charges.

I am not really surprised reading this as I have seen worse reports about the behaviour of people regarding online games really.
Like the Chinese kid who murdered his friend because said friend sold his rare in game sword for real world money.

Or the guy from my old world (Titan) who made it to the media by going to the police for the theft of his ingame gear, adding sadness to sorrow he calculated rl monetary value to it by going to IGE and looking up prices for the stolen gear.
Thank god the police did NOT take that charge seriously.
(The guy himself got banned later for botting, but that's besides the point :P)

The most she can go down for is Hacking.

Two comments:

1, If something is worth RL cash, stealing it is a crime. Period. Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on your viewpoint, two words help the police laugh it off. Virtual and game. Or, if the cops will not investigate, no crime has been committed. This is one of the ways con artists get away with billions world wide. "But he gave the cash to me of his own free will."

2, Japanese law bears little relationship to US law. She could go down for theft of property, hacking, or many other different charges. Or she could go away without charges due to not a single criminal charge being applicable.

looks like they're going to charge her with hacking to me
