So yeah, I beat Maat.

Here's how my day started. I'm 16K to 66 and put my flag up. No invites. So I search, put together a group, and off we go. 3 of my members had to leave about two hours in for Sea and no replacements so we disband.

I go run some errands, come back, and decide to try again.

Get another group going (This time lasted 3 1/2 hours) and I get my level and am now 12K into 66.

Upon returning to Aht Urghan I decide to give Maat a go. I Taru warp to Ru'Lude, start the quest, get my stuff out of my Mog House, hit the AH for last-minute supplies and while I'm doing this I see my LS leader spamming "WOO HOO!!!" in LS chat. He Melee'd THF Maat and won. He'd tried the stealing method before but it didn't work out. Pumped, I head off to fight Maat.

On me I had my WHM AF, 2x Bat Earrings, 2x Phlanax Rings, Qiqirn Sash, Holy Phail, Red Cape, and an Earth Staff. For Food I ate a Taco and meds were 1 stack each of Blinding potion (AH only had stacks) and Echo Drops, 3x Hi Ether, 1 Vile Elixir, 2 Persikos au Lait and 3 Yagudo Drinks.

I entered the BC, used Pro4/Shell3, ate my taco, healed to full HP and MP , switched my Dark Staff for an Earth Staff, then popped my drinks, hit Maat with Flash, and it began.

All through the fight it was easy enough. He hit me a lot, I went up two full levels in Evasion thanks to him, and I kept my wits about me and cured as needed and used meds as needed saving the Vile Elixir for when I ran out of Hi Ether, MP and was low on HP.

After using what I had left of the Vile Elixir MP Maat hits me with a critical hit and follows immediately thereafter with a combo. My HP is now at 200 and I freak out and as I ready my Bene macro I get my cutscene.

I sit there staring at the screen in shock and I start shaking and then just to confirm that I did win I look in my inventory and sure enough, one scroll of Instant Warp. I check my title and it says "Maat Masher."

I re-equip my LS, spam just like our leader did, then used my scroll and as soon as I arrived in Aht Urghan shouted about my victory.
So yeah. Gonna check my e-mails, hit up a few other message boards, then go to bed. Tomorrow, back to the level grind and this weekend I'll be working on my SMN sub because I am now a devotee to the WHM/SMN way.

Bartthegod.

He's a casual player, like me but I think he also levels other jobs.

As for the relief, when I finally convinced myself that I did, in fact, win the fight I felt like a weight had been lifted from me.

The whole BCNM from beginning to end felt unreal and I had to keep telling myself "Yes, you are fighting Maat. You will win. You can do this. Just keep Curing."

And sadly, thats the way i felt going in.

You're almost there. Just about a week and a half's worth of serious grind left to go and you're done

Yeah, I still have to level SMN so there's a weekend right there

I hope to be at 75 and working on the Merit grind by my birthday, if all goes as planned. Now that my incredibly well paying but time consuming job now belongs to someone in India I have more time to play as I look for a new job. Hopefully it'll be a job that allows me more FFXI time. I hated knowing that I was paying for a game I couldn't play.
