I suck at Gears of War. :(

Post by Keavy »

So yesterday, after busting my ass through Gears of War, I reached the final boss, General RAMM. Despite the drunken tips from my friends: "Shoot him in the head. GODDAMN IT, SHOOT HIM IN THE HEAD!!!" RAMM beat me like he was Joe Jackson and I was Tito. I couldn't do it.

Here's the worst part: I WAS ON CASUAL!!! Freaking wuss mode. Even on freaking wuss mode I couldn't beat the freaking final boss, not to mention that it took me 12 hours to get to the final boss due to my repeated deaths (Mainly due to that idiot Dom in the Conservatory. That took me over an hour alone because his dumb ass wouldn't move from the beserker or the damn beserker got stuck due to a glitch. F***!!!)

So yeah, here I was thinking I would just be able to breeze through "five-year-old girl" mode and use it to hone my "stop and pop" skills to allow me to kick some ass on Hardcore and Extreme for those achievements and be like my friends who all have all the Single Player achievements unlocked. Now, my dreams have been crushed.

Please, help me regain my manhood and kill that ugly son of a beeotch.

I went to GameFaqs earlier for a guide to the COG tags (I have...three) and while I was there I read a guide to the game and discovered why I failed so many times: You have to wait until the Kryll leave him and a good way to make them leave is by using the Torque Bow (Which I don't have) but since I was gonna replay from the beginning to get all the tags I figure I'll grab the bow and hold onto it this time through.

 yeah the Kryll act like a shield. He does send them after you aswell but not that often. Dom doesn't last very long against him either so it's all you.

A good combo is Shotgun and Sniper. Sniper for long range and when he gets close use blind fire with teh shotgun and you can't miss (pop up and you die in a second). Remember to run when he starts moving around the box, get your head down and pray (doesn't help that your buddies suck at shooting down those flying things).

I haven't done him on Hardcore, needed help from my brother in co-op mode and my friend has done it on Insane (90% luck)

Yeah, I heard on Insane it's like...twenty headshots to take him down

I don't need achievements THAT badly

...then again, I said the same thing about Legendary mode on Halo when I got it at launch and now I'm attempting my first run through Legendary.

I played CoD3 on Veteran. Biggest thing about stuff like that is to take your time. Take down enemies using head shots and a rifle, and make sure you back up when they swarm you.

And be prepared to die a whole hellofalot.

Think my friend said 15 headshots on Hardcore, so 20 on Insane sounds about right. He can also kill you in a second and even get a lucky few shots when you're behind cover. Find a friend to help you, makes it so much easier

Also grenades will also scare the Kryll away, when he gets close enough blind fire/throw a few over at him.

If you're using the Torque Bow to scare them away don't reload it after you shoot, immediate switch weapons and aim for the head. Once you start getting hit duck back down again and reload both weapons.

So, does anyone know how much damage "Perfect Reload" adds? I have perfected the art of reloading (I got pretty good with the button timing playing Sneak King and have since perfected it. I may get the rest of my achievements on SK now) and if I can shave off a headshot or two that will help a ton.

Doesn't add any damage, just reloads quicker...

According to the game when you hit that tiny little white spot your ammo flashes and that's supposed to do extra damage.

Really? Where does it say that? That doesn't really make any sense.

If you botch the reload or just wait it'll take around 3 seconds, if you get it in the big white bit it'll take about 1 second and in the small bit 0.5 seconds.

That's the only advantage I see in it.

In interviews with Cliffy B. and when the game is loading you'll see messages that say that the flashing ammo does more damage.
