Seriously. People (Like me) now want this thing simply because PS2 games no longer look like crap when played on the PS3.

Oh, and FFXI is also playable on PS3 now. I still have my discs and may install FFXI when I get a PS3 for those times that XBL goes down. After all, its only 6GB.

Oh, here's the details.

So, anyone else willing to get or considering getting a PS3 now?

My Uncle Sam was quite generous with my tax return this year so I got money to burn. New 42" LCD HDTV, new Mac Laptop, and a PS3 are all attainable by me now. My roommate is hella jealous. He had to pay in

I'll wait a year with buying the new consoles.

-They will be a lot cheaper.
-A lot of bugs will be fixed in the new retail versions so I won't have to risk blowing my console by installing a new firmware update.
(Oh it broke because you tried to update it sir, well this voids the waranty sir.)
-There will be a lot more games to pick from, and the good games will have become "Clasics" (AKA a lot cheaper.)

1.5 is very nice, Mainly it fixed the issue with FFXII looking utterly horrible. They stated some other things were fixed as well, but the only real noticable thing is older gen games now look like they should.

Now all Sony needs to do is Fix that blasted online service to not completely suck.

I waited a year before getting my 360, almost no price drop  just had to buy it with an extra control and 2 games to get a "good deal".

Give it a few months, at the moment their either still in the process trying to "break even" on the production costs of the console.
(Developing it is the most expensive part of it.)
Or the Xbox360 is still selling pretty well, (A lot better then it's ancestor the Xbox) so at the moment they don't have a reason yet to lower the price.

Yeah come to think of it, I got my XBox a year late too.
Was fair bit cheaper and they were doing an offer where you get £20 off first 2 games (£40 and over) and £10 off the next 2 and you could get any game with it. Wish they did that with the 360 :(

Sony is starting to realize that, while yes they may technically have the superior system, between the pricetag and the game prices they have just priced themselves out of the market.

I have to speculate that since they recently did a price cut on a number of the launch titles by $20 which is a Very significant cut, that we may see a system cut before the year mark. Really I think Sony failed on one very important point, "You may have the best hardware, but if the Software blows who cares" anyone remember Betamax?

On brighter notes, it "Appears" Sony realizes what is going on and is making strides to correct it, the partial game price cut was step #1. Step #2 is a sweeping price cut across the board on the games in general. Even I who am a Big fan of the Next gen stuff, really have a hard time sucking up $60 a game. Now I know if it digs deep in my pocket, the Average gamer is just not in the ball game. Clearly the third step is a system price cut, but I believe it would be a prudent business decision to first see how a game price cut drives prices. Also I would like to see Sony climbing the game Devs tails on the quality of the games being launched. I mean seriously WTF is the point of a System that supports 1080/1020, and every Bleeping game is in 720...I mean Seriously it really is irritating.

On the bright side of it all, FFXII looks spectacular again and I am playing the daylights out of it. I also h ave to admit my Blu-Ray dvd collection is growing a bit quicker then I thought it would, I really really really am liking this next gen DVD thing ALOT. :D

On another note Keavy, You may want to hold off on the system until march. This is just my personal belief that unless you want the next gen DVD capability, the PS3 still does not justify its price from a gaming platform.

There you have it, straight from the horse's mouth :P

Also having so few systems available on launch was kinda shooting themselves in the foot.

How does PS3 FFXI compare to 360 and a decent PC? Any pics? That link doesn't seem to work.

FFXI on a PS3 would pretty much look like how FFXII looks on the PS3, with some graphical debuffs (Lesser character polygon count, and the like)

Honestly, FFXI on the 360 in HD format does look nice, however you know how some buffs like Signet stick to the screen. Well, my dad has a 50" Plasma screen (Got it while he works at poisoneer for half off, and made 'no interest' payments for 2 years. We're not 'rich', but my dad is a lucky god damned person.). Anyways, that one buff, which can last from 2, to 13 hours, can pretty much burn itself into the screen at one go, not to mention the fact that when you play an MMO, you're pretty much on it for 2 hours -> 24+ (All nighters).

It's not a very nice thing.

360 version looks like a decent PC. PS2 looks like a PC that barely meets the minimum requirements. PS3 looks the same as PS2 because its BC.

"BC"? :?

The short answer is,

FFXI looks like crap on the PS3, because it is not an upgraded version like the 360.

I would hope SE will put out a PS3 edition but, eh who knows. I am a PC gamer when it comes to MMO.

Backwards COmpatible. Just stick a PS1 game into your PS3 and you'll know what he means.

True enough. I can't stand playing FFXI on the 360, even if I bought the damned thing for it (I ended up bittorrenting FFXI and all of it expansions for PC)

Oh, silly me

That'd be pretty painful, playing something that looks so crap on a system that can do stuff that look so much better. Kinda like playing Tenchu on the XBox

SE boned up the 360 version with the viewing settings from what I've heard. Defaults it to widescreen and if you don't have a widescreen TV you have to change the settings every time you log in, and this was a patch that made it that way.

I've never had that problem. Also don't have the "Dead Rising" text issue some people complain about when running the game on an SDTV.

Overall I get the game with better resolution and better graphics plus the added ability to spam my XBL friends with stupid and pointless messages when I get bored.

Oh I get, the text is so small I need a magnifying glass to read it. Heck I had lookup the scoops on the net otherwise I dunno what the hell I have to do. I also get those black bars at the top and bottom even though it's not set to widescreen mode *sigh*
