There is another way to bear maat isnt there... Im hearing alot of talk about just hiting him 40 times with your sword. Are these people just lying to me? Also is it true that in the next patch, they are nerfing red mages some?

I haven't heard anything about alternate ways of beating Maat. I don't even think it's possibe to hit him 40 times with a sword, considering that he melees like a 72 MNK.
And the only details that have been officially released about the next update is "Will continue to find ways to put red mages in positions where they are required to be ready for anything." Doesn't sound anything like a nerf to me. Sounds like we mght be getting some buffs that we've been wanting for years.

I haven't heard anything about what RDM's special method might be. I recall reading a web page that had each job's condition listed, but this was a very long time ago and I only really cared about thf's condition back then. I do recall thinking some of the non-slay methods were so ridiculous that slaying would have been far easier. RDM's could have been one of those.
The only ones I know for certain that folks really do use instead of slaying are thf (steal), whm (heal), and drg (jumping at the right times, iirc). It's been a long time since Maat for me.
All the RDM I recall listening to in shell chat have whined about it being pretty much just luck on the chainspell'd things hitting him for full. Lots of death and grumbling, then "oh, that was easy."

You're being lied to PH- if there was a special trick to defeating Maat, the RDM community would have discovered it a loooonnnnngggg time ago and passed it along to the newcomers.
And no, no nerf to RDMs coming. I do wish people would stop spreading that stupid rumor (not saying you are, btw- just "people" in general). In my opinion SE need to be careful with any changes to RDM since we're such a strong class and too much buffing can easily tip us over onto the "most likely to be nerfed" list. So any changes we see for RDM will probably come at about the same rate as changes to SMN - I mean they waited, what- four years for a major change to their bloodpacts?
One change I would love to see for RDM is when Chainspell is active all spell timers be reset. Currently, if a spell timer is still cooling down when you use Chainspell you have to wait for the timer to hit 0 before Chainspell's instant cast/instant recast takes effect.

Yeah, no need to spread panic over a red mage nerf, that's crazy.
It's much better to nerf them quietly, when they least expect it

Solo the Ruby Quadav's for your test and practice is what I hear works.
You could also do the "level to 70, then delevel then get within 100 exp of level then get a Memoir so you can re-level in the fight" trick.
Mainly it is luck. Lots and lots of luck from what I hear.

Luck. When you win it is about luck. When you loose it is mostly about luck, the rest of the time it is about panic.
Check my post in Kitty How Toos. Look on RDM forums on Alla and KI.
Basically it is about Control and Nukes.
Hit him with a sword 40 times???? What HAVE you been smoking? In the time it takes to swing a sword three times you will be long dead from Asuran Fists.
Testomonies come easiest from Magic Pots in the Temple of Ugly or from RDM Weapons in sky. Practice your straregy on Ruby Quad or the RDM Weapons, even TW Weapons are good for getting your Maat Macro bank memorized.
Gear priorites should be INT, Elemental Magic, and Matt. If you need an excuse to get your Moldivate, this is it. See if you can borrow a Penitent's Belt or Jungle Rope, River Gaiters, Elemental Earring and Torque, HQ INT rings, HQ staves.

Well I tried to fight him yesterday since I hit lvl 69, and needless to say i got pwned. didn't even get Aero III off once. Then again, I didn't cap my skills so I really didn't expect to win. I fought him out of boredom lol

I fought Maat once out of boredom. I was kicking myself later when I realized I had the gear I needed now to fight him, and I had no test. ;_; Had to go solo another one. And Drg tests are a pain. You either have to wade through an assload of sight aggro mobs in close quarters, or tempt the Orcish Farkillers in a game of Cat and Mouse.

I'm still looking for any decent strategies for my PUP G5. I can't seem to find any. With me being unstuck, it's only a matter of time before I rush in blindly and get my ass kicked.
