Regarding Unauthorized Programs (Oct. 4)

After an investigation, we have confirmed the existence of an exploit that may allow unauthorized programs to steal both your PlayOnline ID and password.

As a countermeasure, an emergency update of the PlayOnline Viewer is scheduled for Oct. 6, 2006 (JST). After the update, this exploit will be patched. However, this is a temporary solution. Full countermeasures will be implemented in the near future.

The Development Team will continue to work on countermeasures against the leak caused by unauthorized programs. We would also like to remind you not to use any third party programs, open unknown mail/files, or access suspicious websites.

It is recommended that you change your PlayOnline password on a regular basis. This can be done through the "Service & Support" screen accessed from the PlayOnline Menu. Choose "Membership," select "PlayOnline ID," then select "Change Password."

Keep your data safe! Keep your PlayOnline ID and password secure!

*If you have not used third party programs and your PC has not been infected with a virus, there is no danger of either your PlayOnline ID or password being stolen.

I play on PS2 too Keavy and the wierdest thing happened just this evening when I logged on.

I was logged into Playonline on my PS2 and hit the command to take me to FFXI when an error message popped up saying that my "Password could not be verified." and nothing else~ couldn't go to either the game or Tetramaster. Since I was already logged into Playonline I was like "WTF??? How can my password be unverified??"

I logged out and back in and then changed my password without any issues, but still....wierdness. :?

I had a POL mail just before this announcement

that would crash POL when I tried to open it. I play on PC, and I was worried that it was some kind of attack attachment. I notified SE, and then deleted the entire inbox.
I get about 5~10 spams a day on POL mail. Wish there was a spam filter, hehe.

I'm on PlayStation 2 but i change my password often, becuase ever since i asked my cousin to take care of my auctions a year ago due to power outage at my house, she thinks she can willy nilly whenever she wants. that and while she does use 3rd pt tools, its not my business whatsoever. her 3rd pt tools could also potentially ban my account on her pc, but she doesnt have access anymore.

btw, im about to do dynamis bastok in her stead cuz of school, can you believe im going to be a 75nin/war tarutaru O.O

I'm worried that when I change my password there might be a trojan or something that I'm unaware of that catches my new password when my old one was fine :?

Need more work then I can buy a 360
