My Rdm is lvl 42 (bout to hit 43) but I need his AF weapon. Ive asked my linkshell COUNTLESS times on what I needed to do, but instead of helping me they just told me that RDM AF sucks to get and i will die many times. (Of course im like thanks for the help *jerks* :x ) Does anyone know how to get it? Also I heard that at lvl 50 I get capped and I have to do something called Genkai. What is it and Where Do I start??? :?

As for Genkai, there are five of them. The first two you WILL need help on and you can do them one after the other. Quests are here:

Genkai 1

Genkai 2: Electric Boogaloo (Sorry, I couldn't resist :D)

Then there's Genkai 3 and 4. As a RDM you can solo Genkai 3. For G4 I'd team up with a WHM or make full use of your Airship pass.

Genkai 3

Genkai 4

Genkai 5 is the most hated of all. Thankfully, you only have to finish it once.

Genkai 5

NOW...For your RDM AF

Quest AF: For these you need to fulfill certain requirements and some require fights. Ask for help.

AF Weapon Best to bring help. Any Level 60 melee or 65 Mage can solo AF1 but Davoi provides its own challenges so best to bring hate control.

AF Feet These are your AF2. Once you're level 50 and have AF1 done you can get these.

AF Hands I think everyone goes on the same quest for the hands so there WILL be competition, which can be good. Look for others who are doing the quest and hook up with them.

AF Hat Your pimp hat. NM fight here so hit up some level 75 peeps if you want this to go smooth like buttah. The "Fast Cast' Effect this adds is a godsend.

Coffer AF: You need AF 1 and 2 and have the glove quest Activated to get these if memory serves. Be warned: Other jobs have AF that spawn form the same coffers so you may have competition. Join skill-up parties for the keys.

AF Body

AF Pants

Oh dear lord, you don't even know. I finished G1 thanks to a Thief I met in a party who agreed to help me because he loved my WHM-ery. It took us about 4 hours to get the papyrus, another 2 to get the Mold, and the coal took about an hour.

G2 was kinda bad in that you have 20 seconds to get the item and get the hell outta the cave after the NM dies before it respawns and beats you. Worst of all, you have to do it two more times after that!!!

As for my main, IF I decide to level WHM again after the ToAU madness dies down it will be my THIRD time going from level 52-53 which is why RDM is looking pretty good right now. Spells aren't badly priced, I get to wear armor that offers SOME protection to my delicate and dead sexy Mithra frame, RDM can use swords for farming (I like swords!) and people love Refresh.

So yeah, i'll level BLU for a little while, but as soon as things begin to resemble normal my tail will be in Jeuno seeking as a RDM.

You can keep most of your AF till 75 (Not AF weapon, but you can use that until 51) Because of the MP bonuses and skill bonuses (Rdm don't get much mp) Although you do swap pieces out at some levels, like the Errant gear, or similar (I know nothing about high level mage gear except abj).

Although, I'm now leveling Rdm in a static and been looking around the AH, can't find any really good mage gear; anybody got any suggestions for 10~30?

10-27 if your mostly healing and debuffing, then wear stat bonus stuff to mnd and int. when you turn 27 you can start replacing stuff with RSE

RSE doesn't work for me, Tarutaru RSE sucks for Rdm (STR, HP and VIT bonuses ><) And most things i've found that boost MND and INT are like 30~50k a piece on Phoenix D:

Heh there isn't really much armour available for RDM unless you want to fork out for baron stuff. You have 2 choices really; use RSE or just highest DEF gear until AF.
Been some new armour released with ToAU, one set is meant to be good for mages but I dunno the stats so it's probably around 50s anyway.

At 72 JSE and Errant become available, I hate errant because it's so ugly and got the whole JSE set but if you don't mind looking ugly then the hands and feet of errant are (apparently) better than JSE, and AF hat is about the same too but it really clashes with the Chasuble

Pimp hat ftw, i was thinking of Barons stuff cause Rdm can't wear seers (/cry) but that means i have to do lots of farming D: (Or i could just sell my hauby, and buy the whole set outright)

keep your Hauby, i think RDM can wear it once you get up to that level...

(Never could afford a hauby so im not sure)

No, rdms can't wear the Hauby, its too heavy for us. We can wear the Scorpion Harness though.

For mage gear, starting around level 40, and definetly after level 50, you can find mage gear that we can wear. Mithra level 30 RSE gloves and legs are fanstastic for converting and have some MND+ stats as well.
I used my AF sword for the longest time for skill ups and converting. Its a decent sword if you're able to get it at 41 and hey, its free.^^

70+ gear is mage heaven, so many many choices :D Rdms get lucky, our af is still useful all the way through end-game. AF Body and Hat are just godly (Fast cast, 10 elemental skill+ and 15 enfeelbing skill? Yes, please!) and the tights I still use situationally in exp. I take the boots and gloves out when I go to solo or skill up. The parrying and shield skill+ are great.

I agree about the looks of the full Errant set (ugly), which is why I skipped over the legs and hat. Body is just wonderful for resting and the INT and MND boost are very nice. Hands and Feet are also good for mp and casting stats.

I haven't been able to afford JSE yet since I've been focused on upgrading my INT and MND gear swaps first. What I've heard from my RDM friends who do have the set~ its ok. I'll just have to wait until I'm able to get it and see for myself

The RDM AF sword lived in my Convert Macro right up till 51 when I swapped it out for the Light Staff.

RDM 15 - 20, Bastokian/Republican Cap, Harness, Leggings. Windurstian/Federation Slops. Zeallots Mitts <-> Battle Gloves. 2 each INT and MND rings. Enegery Earrings. Justice Badge. Friar's Rope. +1 Wand and a Bee Spatha +1, Marine Shield.

20 - 30 is dressing for stats. Baron's Saio, Republican Cap and Garrison Salet. Garrison Gloves, Battle Gloves, and Zeallots Mitts, kitty RSE hands at 27. Justice Badge and Black Silk Neckerchief. Mage's Slacks. Mage's Sandals or if you can afford them, Garrison Boots. Any not mentioned from the 15 - 20 list carry on to 29 - 30. Swords have two altertanitives, Flame Sword and the Rare/Ex Auriga Xiphos, although the Bee Spatha +1 can carry you till 27 and the Gladiator. Daggers; Decurion's Dagger at 20, or the Platoon Dagger for speed, At 25, the Republic Dagger.

Shields... why are there no shields with INT and MND...?

there is a shield that converts HP to MP tho

somethign like 30 HP -> 30 MP i think

Think that's rare/ex or really expensive :P
There's a cheap shield from a BCNM40, think it's dropped 90% of the time so it sells around pretty cheap (last I checked at least). I still have my spiked shield or whatever it's called, that's "the definitive" RDM shield 'cause it looks cool and gives some Attack+ but considering you won't be getting hit much I wouldn't really worry about them :P

About the JSE, I think people have done some testing into it and on the hold found it the resists are less frequent than AF (and errant too methinks). Think they estimated Magic Acc ~= Relevent Skill x3
Not to mention mithra look super cute with it :)

Also don't sell your hauby unless you really don't plan on using it again :P still even if RDM could use it it's a pointless piece of armour for us :P

Ya people have been saying that about the hauby, but i am still undecided on my jobs, yet again. (I recently farmed up 500k, and swiftly spent it getting gear for every job i thought i had retired) I need something to make me want to lvl Drk again, getting tired of people who still can't do their job at 60+ and not getting invites for hours on end.

Stockyboy, you should consider your RSE for Convert. It'll give you extra HP which will help refill your MP when you convert (IIRC Taru's are the only race that can get more MP than HP as a RDM.)

Convert and Refresh will be your best friends from level 41-75. Makes farming a breeze. I never have to stop for anything now!

Now, if only SE would let us have Regen II...

My rdm is currently wearing inferno sabots, red cape, strike shield, bastokian sword/solid wand, electrum rings/hairpin, Black neckerchief, Davoi's mittens, and black earrings. Also some wierd belt that gives me +10 mp. For the body, sadly Im still wearing my Garish Tunic, once I get lvl 45 tho Ill used the Brigadine.

True i could use my RSE for convert, and the bonus in HP would mean i don't have to cure back as much....good tip ^^
And thanks Tsybil for the little guide, helped me out a lot ^^

Nobody can figure out Electric Boogaloo?

Euw why do RDM wear that ugly armour AKA Brigadine? It has no benefits for parties, only for farming with probably doesn't make that much difference anyways.

MP? Pfft who needs it I always went the way of INT+ over MP+, I currently have 2 Genius Rings although I should probably sell one for a MND ring but I can't be bothered :P

There's a Rank 5 windy item for lv50, looks a bit ugly but I think it's the best body piece till AF (that isn't over-priced).

Um.... Equipment swaps?

Pile on MP gear for Convert so your not wasting tons of HP when you swap out your MP for it. Also excellent for resting to full MP during breaks or when you have to wait for a party member.

INT+ for Black casting (Enfeebles and nukes)

MND+ for White casting (Enfeebles and healing)

Red Mages more then any other mage tend to switch so much equipment that they blink in and out of view with every spell. Especially when you get higher and start to add in Elemental Staves, Enfeebling gear, MACC gear and Resting MP gear.

While there's nothing wrong with only having one set of stat boosting gear (MP, MND, INT or whatever) being able to tailor your wardrobe for each spell does make a difference when it comes to landing enfeebles or making sure 100+ HP doesn't go to waste when you Convert.

Way bigger than L 30 though. For useful shields...

Lantern Shield L 19, Def: 4, Attack: 5

Decurion's Shield L 20, Def: 6

Bastokan Targe L 25, Def: 7, HP: 6; Republic Targe L 25, Def: 8, HP: 8

And finally a shield for a MAGE!!

Tortoise Shield L 30, INT: 1, MND: 1, In areas under own nation's control: Convert HP to MP: 15. Dropped by Bo'Who Warmonger, around K 10 Pashhow Marshlands, L48 and tough for his level.
