TheAMC LS of Carby server put together a -very- good ffxi rendition of the entire opera house scene from FFVI. Lots of very imaginative .dat file swaping and hacking, plus some very good improv work. The editing is not top notch, so forgive how weird some shots may look.
You can find it on google video
here.
WARNING. This darn thing is nearly 100mb big and 25 minutes long. Set some time aside before watching, this ain't your ordinary home made movie clip.

Bookmarked it so I can watch it when I get home.
And as for the download time, It was at 1/4 of the way in a few seconds. Then again, I do have a sweet connection and as long as people near me aren't using OnDemand or my OS isn't updating in the background I get some damn fast upload and download speeds.

Wow, that was awesome. TheAMC really did a great job on that, especially the video editing, wow. Brings back lots of fond memories.
Which reminds me. I had gone to the music from FINAL FANTASY Dear Friends concert when they had that in LA at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Saying, "It was really cool", doesn't even begin to describe it. So in March last year when they did the More Friends - music from FINAL FANTASY with Special Guests concert at the Universal Amphitheatre, I just had to go again.
Uematsu and James Arnold Taylor (voice of Tidus) were there again and RIKKI, Emiko Shiratori, and The Black Mages were there. But I remember one of the performaces that really stood out was the OPERA "Maria & Draco" with real opera singers. It was the complete version with orchestra. I knew there's a Japanese performance of it floating around somewhere. In fact, I think I have an mp3 of it buried on my computer, but hearing it live was awesome. I think they sang it in Italian too...can't remember, but I remember the story since "Tidus" narrated it before the orchestra and opera singers got going.
In the game it ends where Draco and Ralse start their duel over Maria because Locke and Ultros drop in. But in the full version of the opera, Draco and Ralse duke it out in epic fashion. It was really neat hearing this part of the opera being played and sung. In the end, Draco gets impaled by Ralse's sword. I don't remember too clearly, but I think Ralse was dying from his injuries too. And finally, the opera ends with Maria telling Draco that he has won and Draco thanking her for waiting for him and staying with him. She tells him not to speak and to save his energy, and as he lay there dying she sings to him about their love and how one day they will be reunited. Kind of like how the balcony scene goes.

Yeah, do a search for FFVI Opera and I think you can find a 20 something minute long actual Italian opera piece Uematsu had done. Not sure if it's the same version as what you saw, I can't remember. But I remember what they did was take the one from the game, translated it into Italian, and had it professionally done at an Italian opera house.
Sweet stuff.
