Opinion on subjobs

Hi all,

Currently a lvl 17 thf on Hydra, but I am considering going to blm/whm once I hit lvl 18. What are your opinions on this? Good move? Bad move? I don't mind relevelling, in fact I am looking forward to it. Just wondering if it would be more beneficial to follow thief to the end.

Thanks,

Mollina

The more you have available to draw from, the more beneficial you can be in the long run.

for now, go thf war, or maybe thf mnk. Until you unlock the magic that is Ninja. That is, if you choose to lvl thf higher.

blm / whm, most of the gear you can use for each job for a little while with only some adjustments. Might save you some hard earned Gil for those higher levels.

Having leveled thf, you probably don't want to completely change styles just yet, mainly for gil and space reasons. I would highly suggest doing mnk or war, at least until you get one of those jobs to 30 and unlock stuff like Paladin, Dark Knight, Ranger, etc. Then, feel free to experiment with the different jobs.

Well, it really depends on your likes and dislikes. If you like all the tactical stuff like me, you might want to stick with thief. BUT! if you feel like doing black mage, do it. Trust me, doing one thing over and over and over gets insanely boring. Do different stuff, level some different jobs. I for example have all jobs but 3 to or through the dunes, wasted alot of time, but i found what i liked and was good at. Pretty much I found I like Dragoon, Thief, White Mage, and Summoner mainly, some things were in between and others were :x . So just try out everything you think might be interesting. You might be surprised what you end up having as your main job.

I planned on taking thf to 30 then going all the way with rng. THF is now lvl 61 and rng is sitting at 13.

To change style from malee type to mage type is a bit hard though...

I suggest you go for some other malee type jobs like a WAR , so you won't have much trouble with the style changes.

If you want to go for the mage jobs, be sure to lv both WHM and BLM since they're both needed for mage types; depends on the thing you're going to do.

PS. If you need some quick cash, using a THF (at least lv 45 for treasure hunter2) as a main is ideal. Or you may use other main job (at least lv 30) and /THF for treasure hunter1.

As to THF, level WAR and MNK. Untill level 30 MNK is the best (read most damaging) Sub for THF so 15 should be a good place to stop. After 30 Its WAR. If you don't pull Raptors you really don't need to /NIN. Not ever.

As for BLM/WHM, Buy a L1 Robe, a Copper Hairpin, a Luaan Shield, and a L1 +1 Wand. Level first as WHM/THF to 8, then as BLM/WHM, switch to a hammer at L5. You may want to level BLM with a staff. Eat Grilled Hare and bring some cheap juice and Selbina Milk along.

I encorage people to level a lot of jobs through the solo levels, it is good for the pocketbook.

Thanks for the help! I think I am going to initially go with thf/war but I'm probably going to still level most of the other jobs for fun because you never know when you may need them.

THF/WAR is a good choice in lvling pt. :)

My friend also tell me : THF/NIN is great too.

PS. In later lvs THF/NIN is preferred in the pt, I'm not sure why, but I see THF/NIN in exp pt a lot.

THF/NIN for dual wield and faster TP gain, Utsusemi for when you get major hate from a SC. Other than the obvious... I really don't know why that is myself actually.

of course in theory, THF/MNK's Boost-Boost-Boost-Sa/Ta-Viper Bite would pretty wicked to see too...

I personally prefer /WAR for THF in parties. Better DoT and weaponskills that way with Berserk and such, plus I think you get at least one passive attack bonus.

/NIN isn't too bad... if you tend to pull hate a lot.

No offense, but if you're pulling hate that badly, either you're one HELL of a THF, or you've got one poor excuse of a tank...which unfortunately seems to be happening more and more often now days. :(

THF/NIN is for TP gain and 'cause it is so IN. Other than Utsme for pulling Raptors and TP, /NIN is basicly useless. But EVER so popular.

THF/MNK rules till 30 for damage. If you pull you can't do the Boost, Boost, Boost, SA thing, but there is no other subjob that gives any damage boost at all till THF gets to 30.

THF/WAR gives Berserk at L 30, before that it just adds some WSs that don't stack with SA. Once you have Beserk, /WAR gives the most damage.

THF/RNG can also be a decent combination. I recall a topic a while back that discusses this exact idea of THF subjob. Look it up.

Getting the discussion back on the original track -- It is best to play the game how you want to. If something is calling to you, like BLM, then try it out. In my experience, though, it is best to focus on one job for a long time so you can:
- Fund lower jobs through better methods.
- Participate in larger functions than low-level leveling (ex. CoP, rank missions).
- Become more familiar with the jobs you might be interested in by watching others play them.

THF/NIN 'cause Dual Wield beats all :P
Main for damage, secondary for stat boosts and it looks cool!

I see a lot of THF/NIN using the Small Sword in Qufim. You can get one from a quest in Bastok and it is a great sword.

Oh the DEX sword :) I used a sword with biggest damage as main and a knife with some stat boosts for offhand until I got Viper Bite :) I was happy when I got THF to 37 and gave it up

whm/blm is an awesome job! blm/whm is awesome! take blm to 17 at least... warp will save you time for the rest of the game! no more blood warps! take thf to 25 at least... flee will save you all kinds of time too. if you like magery, take whm to 42. teleport spells are insanely useful. i'm all for trying out new things!

Yes I agree with the BLM thing, being able to Warp is a huge timesaver, just keep your HP in jeuno and never move it :D

Yea...BLM's warp saves a lot of time.

btw, my friend who said THF/NIN is great is now complaining of him, being the mob's TP tank!

(That's true in some way...) :?:
