I'm looking for advice for me, someone who has strokes when being the main healer, but wants to level SMN from 37 to 75. Are there any other options for summoners before 70?

Unless you get a static with a whm prepare to main heal all the way to 75 in 90% if the parties you get invited to.
Tho starting at lvl 51 there are other options to consider.
Suicidal mobs ftw!
Ifrit's cualdron on Volcanic gas is a good place to go solo or duo.
They range for good exp till late 50's early 60's even.

After that you can try your luck on Uleguerand range and start killing Morozkos.
They are the bit higher version of snolls and give good exp till 65/66ish.

After that it's up to the Akselloak, a tad higher but good exp till 70 if you can find a camp that avoids the tauruses.

I myself went up to the very top of the range and went to solo Agloolik at 66.
the camp is excellent and nothing in your kiting path agros.
Tho chaining them started around lvl 68 when I soloed.
Around 51 you can also try and gather another or 2 smn and duo or trio them.
It involves less risk and is a very cool experience.

Another option is to team up with Beastmasters, also a very pleasant experience.

I understand that suicidal gobbies can be good for single / duo SMNs at most levels.

As I understand it the trick is to get them all excited......

You will be main healing a lot... grin and bear it. Don't think you have to cure cure cure and never summon a thing, though... Earthen Ward, Ecliptic Howl and Growl, and Noctoshield work well, magic bursting with IV nukes is fun if you can pull it off, and the healing pacts can save your tail in emergencies by curing the party up hate free.

I hear your pain. Having taken white mage as my first high level job, I wasn't so thrilled with leveling another job the exact same way.

Spira's Soloing guide is very useful for soloing summoner from 51 to 75. You can find it here:

(you may need to register to see the post)

It has some great ideas for locations to solo, but I often did things a little differently than what he suggested. Also, some of the tactics he used no longer work, like "TP Zonekills" since zoned bombs now disappear. Still, it's a must-read.

Between 37 and 48, I found fighting goblins with Carby was not too terrible. You'll need Carby Mitts for this, by the way. But, basically, you keep recasting Carby to fight a goblin until that goblin self-destructs, just like you would soloing a bomb. The two jungles have plenty of goblins to choose from to fit your level.

When I got to level 48, I soloed Explosures in Garlaige Citadel. It wasn't impossible, but it's pretty dangerous. I had to keep sneak on amidst all the bats and undead around me while fighting the bomb, so it keeps you on your toes, that's for sure.

Also, I'd strongly recommend doing ENMs with your summoner job as much as you can. If you do all three crag Promy ENMs, you can get 9000xp every five days (and possibly some rare items too).

There are escort quests you can undertake for experience points scrolls. Also, the Lost Chocobo quest can award experience points scrolls for fast times between certain cities. There's also a couple of Tavnazia quests that grant these scrolls as well, if you're far enough along in the missions. All of these are repeatable every Japanese Sunday.

All that said, when you do get into a party, it's because they couldn't find a white mage or a red mage that was willing to heal. But, because I could find xp in so many other ways, I didn't mind occasionally being the main healer in a party.

Thing is, when you're a white mage and you're main healing, that's all you do. When you're a summoner, though, you can do so much more. Your avatars can set up skillchains, you can magic burst fairly well, you can use all sorts of party enhancements. I thought it was much more interesting to be a summoner than a white mage in a party.
