Ok...I've finally decided to switch kitties in mid-stream (I've been dying to have red hair for a LONG time now), but I've hit a wall when it comes to choosing a name.... For some reason, I'm really obsessive about my names...I just feel like I should love every aspect of the kitty if I'm to spend this much time with her ^^. Anyway.............unable to find a suitable "non-japanese" sounding name (that hasn't already been taken), I've decided to go with a japanese name...
...but I'm not that familiar with Japanese (I'm unaware of the different assumptions that can be made about a particular name, etc.).....
...sooo...which of the following should I go with?
1. Shinju (pearl)
2. Yoshimi (beloved peace)
3. Morimi (beautiful forest -or- forest fruit)
4. Hoshimi (beautiful star -or- star fruit)
5. Sorami (beautiful sky -or- sky fruit)
6. Sumiko (permanent child)
7. Yasuko (calm child)
8. Hitoku (don't know what it means)
9. Chikako (wise child)
Thank you in advance for your prompt answers....
On a side note...I'm afraid NA people will think Hoshimi has something to do with me being a "Ho"....and Yoshimi has something to do with Yoshi from super mario...and Shinju has something to do with "singe you" or jew shins....hmmm....
if I can figure out how to make this a poll I will ^^
Thanks again

I have a definite fondness for:
6. Sumiko (permanent child)
But please remember that I might be a bit biased toward this choice. IRL I am the oldest person on this board.

Mostly what NA people will think is "I wonder if she is a RG"......

OMGZOR (cause i was told to type "OMGZOR")
I advise you dont get a japan name then, there IS a thing that will give you a random name.

I clicked on the random name generator untill something jumped out at me. It can work for you too, just takes patience.

I went ahead with Sumiko
Sadly, my random name generator is somehow broken...it ALWAYS gives me some form of either "Uella" or "Avona"
anyway...moot point now ^^
Thank you all for responding!
I'm going to register under Sumiko and start posting with her now...woot!~

I so like the sound of Sumiko
Plus I took in to consideration of what ppl might nickname u and Sumi
still sounded nice.
if u dont like Sumiko u should do Yoshimi just b/c of yoshi nickname and 2nd best sounding.
Plus I look into which sounds better when you yell it
SUUUUUMIIIIKOOOOOO
YOOOOSHIIIIIIIMIIIIII

Hehe SUUUUUUUUUUMIKOOOOOOO~ JENNNNNNNNNKINNNNNNNS~!
Anyways even though this issue has been resolved some of you may still be interested in a Japanese name generator -->
http://rumandmonkey.com/widgets/toys/namegen/969/
I used this one for a couple of my Guild Wars characters, bare in mind it's "un-translated" so you should enter your family name first then swap the names around of the result to get it "translated"

It also tells you the meanings of each name

kinda crazy, but i really dont like japanese names. might i suggest something for you.
http://pcgen.sourceforge.net/01_news.php
this is a program that actually is used to create DnD 3.5 chars, but inside happens to be the most comprehensive Random Fantasy Name generator ive found (i mean damn)
it has mostly western names, going from latin roman names of multiple periods, names in old english, middle english, late english, nordic, gaelic, scottish, old germain, dutch, ect... if your looking for something different, you might want to give this a shot ;p

With a list of pretty common names there, I think you might find that they've all already been taken.
