OMG! Me too with that kind of costumes and people. That almost makes the local LARP community seem like amateurs.

I think I will pass on the concept of wearing Mithra RSE in the snow. Or THF AF for that matter. The WHM AF could be ever so nice and cozy though.

0.0; Wow, hello. That's damn near professional levels as far as I can see. When I first saw this thread's topic, I was like. >.> FFXI is fun, but from my perspective, there's too much level grind and mindless farming/camping/crafting to make it a LARP.

However after looking at those pictures, it's interesting. ^.^ Me and some of my irl friends are pretty big geeks as far as role-playing. We've custom made rules and settings for just about everything we've wanted. I'm almost absolutely sure we could make a campaign setting and set of rules to adapt FFXI to D&D3.5

Almighty Altana in Heaven, Those people have waaaaay to much time on their hands, I gotta wonder how they can make such extensive costumes and still find time to play FFXI !!!

That white mage AF looks utterly awesome. If I had enough clothcrafting skills iRL as my FFXI character, I'd throw something like that together for my present LARP character (CLICKY)

Those are profesionaly laid out and made. Look at the sketches. If the people wearing the costumes made then, this is their RL job. I have sewn for my living, but for my own costumes I rarely get that detailed.

And just think, if the tax laws in Japan are anything like those here, all the development and um.... testing time is a tax write off.

Live Action Role Playing. The first big LARP game was White Wolf's Vampire: the Masqurade. HQ, High Quality, just as we use it in the game.

I must agree with whoever said earlier that these people have way too much free time. That and I find it hard to believe that the women in the photos are not models hired and are actual LARP players.

lol, well we rarely meet lately, we've got too much IRL to deal with to actually pull off anything worthwhile, school issues and the like *shrugs* I guess I miss our activness, but hey things will pickup soon right?

It would be nice to make costumes for a living, no production line sewing, lots of creativaty.

I've always been wanting to get into cosplay and/or LARP, but I...just never did. =P Besides, I read that LARP website and it seemed to me that it was biased against children. That and anything with rules gets to bug me after a while. I'm still interested in cosplay, and any tips on how to get started would be much appreciated. ^^ Some patterns, no matter how basic, would be helpful, as would a site with pictures of AF armor, etc. Not necessarily cosplay pictures, just something to show me what they look like. And thank you for posting those pictures, they are awesome.

Patterns.... I have been drafting and adapting my own for a long time now. You need to have a good idea of the costume in your mind's eye and then search through the pattern books for something with similar lines and seams. I made a military cut jacket back in the Hippy Era that had the ideal cut for a Warlock's Tablard. I hope it is still in print. I dobut it though.

WHM AF I would have to draft from scratch, THF also.

As for the hardshell AF, DRK, PLD, DRG, I have this friend who is a wizzard with duct tape and cardboard. I would talk to him if I had to do those.

Go to your local librabry, check out books on costuming and stage costumes. They helped me a LOT.
