LOL!!! Oh wow, I love that guy. I've seen him before too, as his friend Seyonne is a wee bit of a legend amoungst Dragoons. And hot Damn, does Maat ever hit hard. Seeing a Galka with all that armor get hit for so much in one hit.....it's gonna take an act of God for me to trash the old man....in....20 levels or so, hehe

Ok, I'm assuming you don't know what Genkai 5 is and will explain it from that perspective. If you do know what it is and are confused about something else, my appologies.

The Genkai, or Limits, are broken in order of 1-5. Normally, the level cap in the game is 50. Beating Genkai 1 raises it to 55, 2 raises it to 60, and so on untill 5 raises the cap from 70 to 75. You only have to beat the Genkai once, and then any of your jobs can advance to the current limit for you.

Genkai quests are issued by an old man in the Gardens on the top of Jeuno, his name is Maat. To beat the final Genkai, one must obtain an Attestation of your class, which is dropped by level 65+ mobs of that specific job. For example, for me a Dragoon, my best bet is the Orcish Dragoons in Davoi, they are upper level 60's.

You trade the Attestation to Maat, and he fights you, like you saw the Galka do. This is purely a fight that your main job alone must conquer, your subjob is stripped away from you entirely. Maat is notoriously difficult to fight, and I've heard some people have gone so much as fighting him 5-7 times before winning. Some, like this Galka, got lucky and did it their first try.

Ooh, my bad, they are Testimonials. Drg Testimonials drop from....
Delta Sahagin (Level: 62 - 69) (Sea Serpent Grotto)
Ocean Sahagin (Level: 75) (Sea Serpent Grotto)
Orcish Dragoon (Level: 65 - 69) (Davoi, Monastic Cavern)

Nasty, nasty stuffs...

Attestations are items used for the -final- upgrade of relic weapons, and drop from select few Dynamis critters.

Picture this. You're a JP player who's been playing since JP release, 3 years. You've managed to bring up a few jobs to 75. Yes, only a few, you're slacking off because you've also raised your Goldsmithing to 100 and all other crafts to 60. Full relic gear for your favorite lvl 75 job, millions upon millions in your pocket in gil.

Squeenix -has- to add new uber level content, otherwise they would loose the highest characters to boredom.

Actually, I've seen a movei of a Rdm that beat him somewhat easily. It involved alot of Sleep II, Stone II, and Dispel. His Sleep II would go off usually before Maat could finish Ye Olde Fireball XII or whatever. He used 2 yag drinks and one ether in the fight. Small price to pay for breaking G5 I'd think.

One RDM friend went up against Maat 16 times in total. On the 16th he broke the record.

The RDM's stratigy is simple. Keep him asleep. Luck is a BIG factor. If he resists at the wrong time, you loose.

I am only 59, I level slowly, and I am studying this fight hard.

Two tricks for fighting Maat.

Trick one assumes he is a coppy of yourself and equipped with the same gear. Go in naked and dress fast with macros. Even better, wear things like Stumbling Sandals and Coarse Guantlets. Mages would wear a Fang Necklace, - 6 MND.....

Trick two assumes nothing. You go in at level 69 < 500 TNL. You bring a page from the Dragon Cronicals or Miratete's Memoirs. Get too low on HPs and/or MPs, use it, level, and instant refill.

wait a sec.. wasnt there an update that made it so that you couldnt level up off of using one of those? i almost coulda swore that it would take you right up to the edge and not level you...
