Quite the interesting topic. I bet you could also run into similar problems if you were running Linux and using a windows emulator to play the game. You could probably have all sorts of fun with the emulator in distorting whatever program you were currently running.
One thing to note though is that the people getting caught got so becuase (and this is my guess) that they were bragging about it in game. Telling it to their friends, people in the Linkshell. Well duh, of course SE can see every bit of chat that runs through the game. I did remember reading in a topic on the windower's website about people getting banned/suspened for using it. The people who developed it said it sends no kind of data over the internet.
Also when I've had fraps up I notice the framerate is capped at 30/29 And even with my 6800GT I get lagged up in jeuno and my framerate drops to 10 or 12. I did turn up the settings but I even cranked up the settings on games like Half-Life 2 and UT2k4 and get well above 30 on them. I think I figured out why they cap the framerate now and that has something to do with the speed hacks. If they didn't, people with high end PC's could be moving along much faster/smoother or at a very constant pace than those on PS2 or those with low end PC's Such as why people who overclocked their hardware ran into speedhack trouble. I feel this is where SE lacks in the developement of the game because it seems it was all specifically designed to be run on the PS2 which is very different architecture from that of a PC. Then they have to go back and port the game to run on Windows and PC architecture. In other words, the PS2 really is holding the game back from being ten times more efficient than it is with smoothness of gameplay and especially the updates. Asside from that they are very good with the structer of gameplay

You're excused. ^^
But yeah, I get lagged like hell in Jeuno, and the game runs fine for me anywhere else...unless I turn the weather effects back on, which for some reason just kills my framerate completely. >< This is using an Nvidia Geforce 6200 Turbocache with PCIexpress, an AMD Athlon 64 3200+, and a gig of RAM. =\
No clue on numbers or anything, since I don't run any outside programs.

Hey I don't care if you do use a PS2 and you certainly are excused. It's actually very helpful for those that don't have good PC's and don't know how to build or upgrade their own. I'm willing to deal with all the problems anyway.
And yeah, with that configuration Kintrra I would think the game wouldn't lag, but it still does =/

Its your video card, hate to break it to you. It does not matter how new the budget card its still a budget card. I ran ffxi on a Ti-4600 with less specs on max settings with zero lag anywhere. Now my pc is substantially better at this point, but I know ffxi has not improved graphically speaking.
The rest of your specs appear fine.

Try looking at it with the weather effects on. Cool as all hell...right up till you hit the button to move. Then it's framerate elevator going doooowwwn. >< Kinda funny really given the the comp. XD

When the PS2 first came out, I quickly noticed how quickly many games were ported to the PC, a few even being released simentaineously.
The Arcetuture of the hardware makes little difference in this mater, it is the layers of software between the hardware and the programs that make easy or hard porting.
I thought then, and still do now that the PS2 was designed to make that porting easy. But then there is the Xbox, Basicly a PC designed to emulate DirectX in hardware. Yet the ports have been far slower and fewer.

She is right. Get a better card. But before you do, try Omega Drivers. Free out there on the Web.
I STILL run on an ATI 8500 All in Wonder with 128 Meg of video Ram. It is much better than my ATI 9200 ever was.
But even on a 64 bit Athalon with an excelent Nvida card, now one generation old (Forget the model number, my best friend's machine) there is lag in Jeuno.
There will ALWAYS be lag in Jeuno.

You and I both Kavhi.
My biggest peeve is people who hold long conversations in /s or /sh about mundane RL things. Sports, computers, and politics seem to be the most discussed this way.

ok so what i got from reading that was other then the fact windows vista gives you window mode with out a 3rd party program it might also give you a bit more speed...
well over clocking and have a faster somputer and/or os wont due much sept run the game better for you. if it some how speeds up the conection in between your computer and the server then its fine less lag and such..
but they can fix that by adjusting either there server or patching the software.
the better machine you have to run ffxi the faster and smoother it will run. now if that effects other people during game play i don't see how it's your fault.
as in many fps games i've played online when i get mad lagg and get killed alot its cause my conection or computer can't run it that well, so if my computer can't run it that well and it laggs like that should the company that made the fps bann people who have better computers cause they don't lag like i do?
no.
that just means i need a better comp. which makes the baning or temp ban of people for how there computer runs over clocked not over clocked or the os runing better then on some other comp, a pice of crap.

Currently I think the problem has to do with what is known as "speed hacking". It basically enables your character to move faster (and do things faster as well. Sort of like taking the restricting plate off of a NASCAR). I can see how players would be upset over this as well.
It seems that Windows Vista allows you to exploit this bug in FFXI and it seems to be why the GMs are upset over it. Granted they GMs may also have not banned the users for just using Vista but banned them because they were "speed hacking". Eg. A player noticed the effect and called a GM on them.

Just letting you know, that would be fleetool.exe. Don't think that would have to do with what OS your using. And Mrargus.exe/Pos.exe IMO are much worse. Mrargus - Teleing to any npc/mob in your memory and Pos - being able to get past any boundries pretty much. It isn't a bug, it's telling the server your lagging and you pop some where else, or are going faster. Speed for example, is client-side. So is movement etc.
