My NPC helper

those of you who have done the helper quest, come tell us who you got

My helper:
Clearite, female Elvaan.
long bangs and white hair.
currently still lvl 30, shield type.

let's see who has the quest done

Amusing, I have Clearite too.

After you summon your new friend three times, you can change their style to Attacker or healer. Apperently after 6 summonings you can give them a different weapon. Or give it to the Mithra who started the quest, not sure on this.

WARNING!! Never target your new friend with your Courser. Use the tab key to target them. It is WAY too easy to dismiss them if you use courser.

I want to see a guide on leveling your new friend. I am wearring the Signal Pearl in every fight just in case that will help.

Mine is Jajuju, Tarutaru Female, green hair w/ straight bangs/tied in 3 places.

I'm hoping to turn her into a Healer type soon to support Josiejo, who is strictly melee.

Update: I had time to kill, so we ran around Sauro killing goblins and skinks. After about 12 mobs, she said we had met quota, and left.

Things to note:
- Her provoke pwns. I have to work my tail off to get hate back.
- Chat filters suck, as usual.
- Party only spells DO NOT WORK.

Things I want to know:
- How to make it do something
- Its actual job
- How to upgrade eq, especially a weapon.

Ha-ha! I'm useful!

Ok. Here is the best info I've found on Alla's boards. After you summon your NPC, you can fight 15 times before he/she says "I'm tired"(or something like that.) and leaves. If you are not fighting and just hanging out, there may be a time limit, but I'm not gonna try that out and have to wait another 20 hrs before seeing her again. >.>;

After the first 3 adventures, a new option pops up when you speak to your friend at the Rendevous Point. You can tell him/her to change styles.
Sheild {The default class} is where the goon swings with ye olde weapon and vokes occasionaly. They will also use WS's according to their weapon. The WS may change as they level, I do not know. There is also evidence to show that this class has Undead Killer, they will intimedate undead.

Healer. From what I've seen, think Rdm. I saw one cast Aquaveil (I think) and I know they heal you, as well as wear armor and engage in combat.

Attacker. I don't know much about this one, but I've heard all they do is attack. It'd make sense if they could use Double Attack though...

After 6 'adventures', it's said that you can talk to Luto (The mithra who started this whole thing) and there will be a new option if you ask her what's new. You can trade her basic(?) weapons, and your npc helper will use them.

Oh, and for me, I have Yoli. A mithra with blonde tied back hair. Healer: Lv 30. (Just changed her class today, haven't partied with her yet.

Side note. Today when I was out soloing some worms and gigas's in Qufim, I saw a 24 Drg with Wyvern and NPC. He said he was getting up to chain 4 on the worms around the lake. His NPC was healer. Can't wait till I can bring my helper alone with me to heal me as a Drg. ^.^

After (I think) Your 6th summon, you can change which weapon you want your friend to use. You do so by talking to Luto again, upon which she will tell ya That your friends been browsing the weapon shop.
To change your Npc weapon, you trade it to Luto, and she will give it to your friend. It must be a specific type. So far, its only the following:

Uchigatana, Kunai, Bronze axe, Cesti, Butterfly axe, Claymore, Bronze knife, Bronze zaghnal, Ash staff, Harpoon, Ash club, Bronze sword.

Uchigatana has the highest dps, but Cesti is most accurate I believe. Of course you may want one that chains well with whatever weapon you are using.

Another update:

Yoli is level 31. Though I've summoned her four times, when Fox and I were killing Eft (36-39) in Bibiki, the exp didn't seem to count. On the first kill on her 4th summon, she leveled, right on cue.

Sticking with shield type, since I'm a mage.

Two more runs... still level 31. I'm worried that switching the type reset the work done in level 31. Oh well. I tried attacker, but she stuck with sword/shield, and Luto says I should bring a weapon, but doesn't take anything I give her. Figures.

Okay Myst after about 6 summons or so, go talk to Luto and she'll tell you that your npc has been browsing the weapons shop. She'll tell you to trade a lvl1 or 5 depending on the weapon, to her to give to your NPC, Sahyu had sword and shield, so i gave her a bronze Zahgnal and thats her weapon as attacker. However now she tells me she's trying to upgrade but until i know what to upgrade to, I'm using a lvl1 scythe

Yoli leveled to 32 today. Earlier than I thought she would, but later than I orignially anticipated. I don't really understand how the exp works, but as long as it keeps working, I'll keep playing.

Luto took a Claymore (GS) for Luto, and Yoli did fairly well with it. Definately more damage than she was doing with that sword. She has double attack, so she's still a WAR/???. So far the only real difference I've seen in shield and attacker is that she doesn't provoke. The damage is about the same, before the claymore anyway.

It's also been confirmed that the Shield type has the {Undead Killer} trait. I witnessed several people's sidekicks intimidating the bone-type NM while waiting in line to fight it.

The Healer type doesn't line up with any standard job. -na spells and stoneskin at level 30 are only possible for WHM main.
