Upcoming Version Update July 2005 [Full List]

Post by Dukuji »

Okay, you should all know the routine by now. Every version update I like to post all the information into one large topic and update it as new information becomes available. The latest information will be added at the top. All information comes from Playonline.

*************************************************************

Subject: ≪July 19, 2005 (JST) Update Details≫

From: FINAL FANTASY XI (7/18/2005)

Message:
[Event-Related]
A new chapter has been added to “Chains of Promathia.”

A new quest called “The Fellowship Quest” has been added. Upon completion of this quest, the player will receive an item used to call an NPC.
-The NPC may not be called during NPC escort quests, but may be used along with beastmasters’ pets, summoners’ avatars, and dragoons’ wyverns.
-The NPC may only be called in certain field areas.
-The NPC may fight monsters, gain experience, and level up with the player.
-A player fighting with an NPC fellow will receive only 70% of the usual experience points gained for solo battles.
-The NPC may be called only when there are less than six members in the player’s group. A party may contain a maximum of three NPC fellows, along with the three players who have called them.
-If the NPC’s level exceeds that of the player, its status will be adjusted to match the player’s level.
-The NPC’s equipment will occasionally change after fighting several battles.
-The NPC will leave if the player:
-temporarily logs out to PlayOnline
-logs out
-enters a different area
-is KO’d
-All NPCs in a party will leave if the party attempts to increase its total number of players and NPCs to seven.

Several new quests have been added, including:
-A quest in which the player may acquire headgear that resembles various beastmen
-Rematches with mammets and the Mithran sin hunters
And more!

An NPC that tells the player’s fortune regarding titles and other “elements” has been added in Mhaura.

Character title selection has been changed in the following ways:
-It now costs less gil to change a player’s title. Also, it now costs no gil at all to check the player’s list of available titles.
-The NPC bard that changes player titles will now sing out the player’s title just before changing it.
-After changing the player’s title, the NPC bard will sing out the new title. Nearby PCs will also be able to hear the new title.
-The player will now have the option to have a random title selected for him or her at no cost once each day (Earth time).
-Titles earned by defeating NMs are now available for selection not just at Selbina and Mhaura, but also at Kazham and Rabao.

A chocobo riding game has been added. The player must deliver a chocobo from the chocobo stables where the quest was offered to a designated nation.

Players are now able to talk to an NPC and check the remaining time until they are able to reenter the battlefield for the ENM quests “Pulling the Strings” and “Automaton Assault.”

“Return Ring” and “Homing Ring” have been added to the list of items that may be earned by exchanging conquest points.

If a player has completed the quests to get a pair of Mannequin Pumps or a Minstrel’s Dagger but disposed of the item he earned, the player may now reacquire the item at the same place he attained it.

Mythril Plate Armor has been added to the list of equipment that may be stored as a key item.

A new NPC that will trade items for treasure earned by defeating Lumorian monsters has been added.

[Battle-Related]
Players are now able to earn experience from monsters of a wider level range than previously possible. Experience points earned by defeating “decent challenge” and “easy prey” monsters will also increase in some instances.

Experience chain bonuses in level-restricted areas of Chains of Promathia are now determined by the level of the player while in that area, rather than the player’s actual level.

Monster locations have been adjusted, particularly in Chains of Promathia areas. The following areas will be affected:
Bibiki Bay, Uleguerand Range, Attohwa Chasm, Newton Movalpolos, Promyvion – Holla, Promyvion – Dem, Promyvion – Mea, Promyvion – Vahzl, Lufaise Meadows, Phomiuna Aqueducts, the Sacrarium, Riverne – Site #A01, Riverne – Site #B01, the Garden of Ru’Hmet, Ro’Maeve, the Boyahda Tree, the Den of Rancor, the Shrine of Ru'Avitau, Kuftal Tunnel

The damage and accuracy of a player’s ranged attack are now calculated based on the distance of the player from the monster. This determination varies from weapon to weapon, as does the ideal distance for maximum damage. In addition, the higher the monster’s level is with regard to the player, the less damage will be dealt with a ranged attack.

The player’s enmity now decreases when a shadow image created by Utsusemi is absorbed by an attack.

Weather will no longer have an effect on the distance a player can be detected for monsters that detect based on the use of magic.

Several new notorious monsters have been added.

Creatures summoned by monsters (excluding elementals) have had their names changed to “(Monster’s name)’s Avatar” for consistency.

The strength of monster techniques has been adjusted, particularly in Chains of Promathia areas.

A player who is KO'd, revived, then while still in a weakened state KO'd again will now, after a second reviving, temporarily experience a weakened attack and accuracy loss for magic and ranged attacks.

Before the update, a player who fought a monster without using auto-attack would retain his claim on the monster, even if he was KO’d in battle due to poison, etc. This has been fixed so that when the player dies, the monster becomes unclaimed.

Before the update, a monster that was claimed by a party or alliance would occasionally go unclaimed when magic or a weapon skill was used on the monster as the monster moved out of range before the magic or weapon skill could strike.

[Item-Related]
Trading a wijnruit and 99 ninja tools to a certain NPC can now earn the player a toolbag. This item may be gathered in stacks of twelve, essentially increasing the player’s ninja tool inventory capacity twelvefold.

New synthesis recipes have been added.

Prices at guilds have been changed to reflect the amount of each item the guild currently has in stock. The cost may rise to a maximum of five times the original price.

Some of the treasure items earned from notorious monsters in the Boyahda Tree have been changed.

The way that the following items are acquired has been changed:
Archer Ring, Leaping Boots, Emperor Hairpin, Peacock Charm
In addition, players may receive an EX/Rare or EX item with the same attributes from the monsters who previously dropped each of the above items.

The effects of the following items have been altered:
Poison Potion, Venom Potion, Paralyze Potion, Sleeping Potion, Silencing Potion, Blinding Potion, Vitriol, Instant Warp, Bastok Mines gate glyph, Bastok Markets gate glyph, Port Bastok gate glyph, Eastern San d'Oria gate glyph, Western San d'Oria gate glyph, Northern San d'Oria gate glyph, Windurst Waters gate glyph, Port Windurst gate glyph, Windurst Woods gate glyph, New Year’s gift, Cantarella, Black Drop, Muting Potion, Invitriol, Warp Cudgel, Trick Staff II, Treat Staff II, Teleport ring: Holla, Teleport ring: Dem, Teleport ring: Mea, Teleport ring: Vahzl, Teleport ring: Yhoat, Teleport ring: Altep, Memento Muffler, Gargoyle Boots, Zoolater Hat, Root Sabots, Aries Mantle, Anubis's Knife, Oscar Scarf, Kinkobo, Carpenter's Belt, Blacksmith's Belt, Goldsmith’s Belt, Weaver’s Belt, Tanner’s Belt, Boneworker’s Belt, Alchemist’s Belt, Culinarian’s Belt, Fisherman’s Belt, Counter Earring, Tactical Ring, Wing Gorget, Healing Feather, Spirit Lantern, Astral Pot, Homing Ring, Return Ring, Absorbing Shield, Tavnazian Ring, Ducal Guard's Ring, Maat's Cap, Kingdom Stables Collar, Republic Stables Medal, Federation Stables Scarf, Cursed Beverage, Cursed Soup

The item “Timepiece” has been added to the list of special items a player may receive 100 days after participating in the Vana’diel Adventurer Recruitment Program.

The following item names have been changed in the English version:
Panzer Mask -> Panther Mask
Panzer Mask +1 -> Panther Mask +1
Amemit Mantle -> Amemet Mantle
Amemit Mantle +1 -> Amemet Mantle +1

The item name “Comet” has been changed to “Little Comet.”

An attribute of the following item has been changed:
Darksteel Pick +1 Delay:312 -> Delay:303

[System-Related]
Region Info may now be viewed from all areas.

Messages may no longer be sent using /tell to a player on the user’s blacklist.

Along with the introduction of the Fellowship Quest, players may now combine text commands with <ft> to target their NPC fellows and execute their desired actions. Only the player who called the NPC may target it using <ft>.

[Other Content]
The following changes have been made to Ballista.

-If one side of an official match is low on members, entry into that force is now possible even if a match is already underway. In this case, experience may still be gained if certain conditions are met, just as if the player had entered the match from the start. Also, if a player enters during a match, both forces will receive a message notifying them of the new entry.

The player must have the following in order to enter a match already underway:
-A Ballista License
-Enough gil to enter the match
-The minimum level required for the match being played

-A player who has just entered an official match or a match in Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba that was already underway will temporarily be placed under “Preparing for Battle” status.

-Players may now borrow the key items “Ballista Earring” and “Ballista Band” free of charge from the Pursuivant in Ru’Lude Gardens.
Ballista Earring: When in possession of this item, the player will receive information about the next Ballista match and the entry registration time when entering San d’Oria, Bastok, Windurst, or Jeuno from one day prior to the match (Vana’diel time) until the end of the entry period.
Ballista Band: When in possession of this item, the player will be given the choice of whether to keep or throw away the first Petra he quarries.
*Ownership of a Ballista License is not required to borrow the above items.
*The player may return the items simply by speaking to a Pursuivant.

-Players are no longer able to adjust Petra selection settings in Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba. The player will be given the option of what to do with the first Petra quarried only when in possession of the new key item “Ballista Band.”

-The following rules have been changed from special rules to standard rules.
-Camp locations will change when the number of participants in a match is 40 or less.
-The number of Rooks will be reduced to two when there is a significant difference in the number of players on each side.
-Players will now receive experience points for participating in an official match.

-The system of “Open Entry” for official matches, in which all adventurers were allowed to join the force with the smallest number of participants, has been done away with and replaced by a system called “Temporary Entry,” in which players may join a force regardless of allegiance. However, the player's entry is temporary, and similar to Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba's “Auto-Balance” feature, the players may be redistributed for balance when the match begins.

-In Ru'Lude Gardens, the player will be able to view Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba's reservation status. Reservations for the next two days (Earth time) will be shown.

-The NPC Tillecoe will now inform the player of the match’s level restriction when a match at Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba is set to allow general participation.

-Temporary items will now be distributed at the start of official matches held at the Pashhow Marshlands.

-A section of the Ballista rulebook that is read out by the Pursuivant has been changed.

-The rate of success for Foe Lullaby and Horde Lullaby has been lowered for players with bard as a support job.

-A limit has been imposed on the amount of HP that can be absorbed by Bloody Bolts’ HP Drain effect during Ballista.

Well, here are my opening reactions.

With CoP coming to an end I guess we should be about ready for another expansion. {/Cheer}
Too bad to finish CoP missions around chapter seven or so you need to be pretty much 70+. {/Sigh}
But I have a feeling that the new expansion will come out with the release of the x-box 360 which means I have many months to catch up. {/Cheer}
But my playtime is becoming less and less due to a busy schedule. {/Sigh}

Dang you beat me Kuji!! :)

Well, all sounds interesting having finished the promyvions (what a hell... what a hell) and the Phomiuna Aquaducts mission.
I'm still way off the end of the promathia missions but I will do those eventually.

about a new expantion, I don't know....
I think I'll await that until confirmed.
I hope they do.
By that time I think I would be having all Zilarts, CoP and Rank missions for 1.5 nation done. :D

Anyways, I added the new information on the new battlegrounds and NMs and such. If you get a chance check out Playonline's picture for this article. It has two mithra on it that look really cool (which is about impossible not to do). :D

Those are the Sin Hunters, three Mithras who give you a brutal fight in Chapter 5. My group beat them by the skins of our teeth this week.

Well, more info was released. I don't know about you but the thought of wearing a beastman scalp on my head is kind of gross. Hmmm, maybe the Yugado one, to mock them.

Added info from June 24th. I guess we should expect to see more mobs in a bunch of the areas from CoP. As SE said, "These adjustments will give players more freedom when choosing where to battle." I'm guessing that most of these changes will be in the upper level areas due to the fact that they also made reference to the Merit Point system. So I wouldn't worry about the capped areas such as the aqueducts.

The picture for this update is kind of funny. It shows a bunch of goblins moving in a line as if they are invading (or fleeing?) an area that looks like Buburimu.

Added the latest information (June 28 ) on the bundling of Ninja Tools (tools, not powders, none of them look like powders; little pet peeve). For me, this is huge, I have a mule that keeps most of my spare tools (around 30 slots). This will greatly reduce my inventory; not only in my mog house but also on me (when I level I have 48 slots full). Almost makes me want to take back all those mean things I said about SE. :P

Added the new info with a heavy heavy heavy heart. Today is a black day for my profession.

Sorrry Dukuji, If you thought you had a hard time holding hate before.... But you can always go broke spaming powders or Shirken. Hmmmm... add this to the new bundled NIN tools, and we will have a race to see who can spend the most on a battle, NINs or RNGs.

/sigh In all the discusions about who is the better tank, NIN or PLD, I have always said better for what? PLDs hold the hate, NINs take little damage. Which is more important to you? Either NINs will adapt, or this discusion is at an end.

Stupid mobs. If I was trying to hit something, and couldn't lay a paw on it, it would get me madder, not less mad.

Ninja tank is a gimmick; a circus act that gets the job done. Ninja tanks were born because there was a HUGE lack in jobs that could tank and/or people willing to step up to the dangerous job. We are not true tanks (and by "we" I mean the 2% of the ninja out there that actually know how to play the job right; no joke) by definition. Imo, the PLD is a more versatile and useful tank. They are a true tank. This update will make PLD preferred over a NIN tank because other PT members that sub ninja will be able to lose hate faster thus making the PLD job a bit easier (PLDs rejoice). Not only that but to DD who sub ninja this is also good news because they can lose hate faster without having to take a few physical hits (DD rejoice). And this also means that the healers should be doing a bit less healing of the DDs that get hit (healers rejoice).

To me, I don't care what SE does to my job, I will always play ninja the very best I can. Right now, I spend about 200k per level (about 6 hours of PT) on my tools. Ninja is hard now and it looks like it’s just going to get harder. But I will prevail. If Ninja tank becomes obsolete then I will level RNG or BLM and find ways to play ninja to a another extent.

Btw, my one joy with this update will be if it weeds out most of the crappy ninja out there. It would almost be worth it.

*************************************************************

After thinking about it for some time I have decided that this is a much needed change. This isn't going to harm the great ninja out there; only the lazy ones. (Or so I hope) In the end I hope that ninja will once again be respected as soon as the ninja job pool has been weeded out.

Wow... DRGs might actually get parties again. :P

I can't believe this though... SE should learn from Blizzard about how not to "improve" the game. There is nothing wrong with Ninja tanking, and sure, I think it is a true tank. They draw aggro, they do occasionally take damage, and they do all that to protect other party members. PLDs may have been intended for that role, but NINs do it without taking as much damage, which is always nice for healers. Now, no one's going to want a NIN tank, and they'll be put on the shelf to scrap for those few pickup parties that just have a party hole to fill, but couldn't find anything more desirable. However, RNG/NIN just went up as DD. :P

I hate..I mean I hate having anything but a NIN as a tank..PLD and War are so horribly inefficient..I never had trouble with aggro with a nin tank.. :(

I completely disagree.

I'm afraid... that you yet have to meet any good PLDs,
A good PLD is just as or more efficient as a nin comming to tanking.
As in with a good pld, most of the curing will be done by himself to keep hate upon him.
Just Regen (I/II/III), Haste and throw a few Flash in between or when you see a mob prepare it's TP move.
With both the Pally and the WHM using Flash the damage will be as good as minimal.
(When you burst Flash onto a Light SC the mob will even miss an extra time or 2 ;) )
With the hate a good PLD keeps, the cures that normally goes to Melee for them getting hate will go to the Pally.

As for war/nins tanking, not before lvl 74 where they get Utsusemi:NI
Those are indeed very inefficient when it comes to keeping hate and curing.

well duh i so agree there, put a paladin and a war in a tank slot side by side and that paladin can pull off a better job. point in case, back in japan before they had zilart and we had XI, there was no ninja. NINJA WAS NOT AROUND TO TANK, the only tanks were warrior and paladin and believe me pld was the main choice, then zilart comes out and ninja becomes a tank cuz some moron was too lazy to find a real one. SE IN NO WAY intended ninja to tank, and nin is expensive becuase we're forced to tank and thus lose tools fast, and if you disagree with what i say, go lvl ninja as main and then go war/nin as main and see if you like the abuse, the 2 jobs that are the worst choice for a tank.

when you can put up with disrespect like war and nin mains get becuase of these morons, then you've earned a spot among legends, but believe me it isnt easy. as for bundeling ninja tools I'm all for it~

I'm sorry but I'll have to disagree this. Tanking is the cheep way to play ninja. NIN/BLM and NIN/RNG spend way more then a tanking NIN/WAR does. Instead of a 200k night (that's 6 hours for me) I could spend 3 million as a NIN/RNG or about 500k has a NIN/BLM. Subbing ranger means throwing shuriken (have you priced them level 48 Manji Shuriken?) and going with BLM means using a LOT more ninja tools (since you will be casting a lot more).

Either way, Ninja is an expensive job. I have no problem with this. I spend what I spend because I love my job and whatever SE does I will adapt; I will overcome.

Without tanking, Ninja is practically useless. There are far better damage dealers than Ninjas, and believe me, they'll cash in on your misfortunes now. Utsusemi will be practically useless in groups, and only really used for solo excursions. Most other Ninjutsu is barely used as it is, so I can imagine that might actually increase out of necessity. But overall, Ninja mains past 37 will probably decrease greatly. I care not for these changes... :x

You are possibly right, and I will change my mind if I ever group with a pld that I do not spend 3 times the mp healing.

nearly ever nin I ever grouped with i generally tossed regen on, and possibly a cure in the event utusesmi got interrupted..It was rare I had to heal more then that. Every pld I have ever grouped with, I had to suck down juice as fast as I could make it just to keep up.

HA! im sorry but thats a common misconception.... you try exping w/o a NIN as a dd enfeebling ninjutusu can save a parties rear, in my opinon "NINJA CANT DD" but when a ninja tanks and cannot do it becuase the party didnt set up right to help the ninja tank or the nin cannot put up their utesumi becuase its gone faster then recast "THEY SUCK" you just dont get it, i want you josijo to lvl ninja and be a main tank, i want you to experience hell as a ninja main and experince the disrespect they recivce often, you will not like it, you think you can say what a ninja can do yes.

But There are those who talk about it....
And there are those WHO BE ABOUT IT!

you cannot talk about what a ninja should do unless you play that ninja's job you tell them to do. when you do both aspects then you tell players what their job does. If this sounds harsh im sorry but i have NO RESPECT for those who tell other players what their job should do when they do not play the same job. :x

one more thing if ninja is a tank: Changes to the ninjutsu "Utsusemi"
In the next update, the player's enmity will decrease when a shadow image created by Utsusemi is absorbed by an attack.

thats from Square Enix.... if ninja is a tank explain how that statement from SE makes them a tank.... i thought tanks needed or gained Enimity, doesnt losing enmity mean that you cannot hold hate?

Okay, I for one am tired of people talking about what job was meant for what. Tibor said it best:
It should be stunningly obvious that the game is changing continuously, driven by gameplay tweaks from SE and by the ingenuity and creativity of its players. What NIN was or was not meant to be at the release of RoZ some two years ago is wholly irrelevant. NIN and, by extension, blinktanking have come to preeminence since then, and stating that NIN wasn't meant to be a tank is like the sky wasn't meant to be blue during the day because it was black at night.
Ninja can do many things. With the proper gear they can tank, deal melee damage, deal magic damage, enfeeb, assist the BLM, etc or any combination of the above. Tanking happens to be what is in grave demand atm. I do believe that SE has embraced the idea of ninja as tanks. Here is some proof:

Yasha Hakama
Yasha Jinpachi
Yasha Samue
Yasha Sune-Ate
Yasha Tekko
This is a new set of gear that just came out, gives great enmity and can only be used by ... ninja.

Arhat's Jinpachi
Arhat's Sune-Ate
Arhat's Tekko
Arhat's Gi
Arhat's Hakama
Again, all of these give enmity.

But check this out, this item just came out a little bit ago:
Naruko Earring
This earring gives +10 enmity when used and it's only for ... ninja.

Want another enmity + gear just for ninja?
Nokizaru Gi

Not only these but SE has allowed ninja to wear many types of armor; many of them that are very useful in tanking.

To me it looks like SE is trying to help ninja out in the tanking department. But there are other avenues and other roads a ninja may walk. I will be where I am most needed.

*************************************************************

I don't know what is going to happen in the next few weeks. I have a feeling that the amount of enmity removed will have something to do your ninjutsu level (just like the change last fall with the AoEs and utsusemi). The higher your skill the less enmity that will be removed. But, we shall see.

lol ya right, ive taken a new focus

if a white mage says warrior is a tank, then they know more then me :P that and I'm just going to mule for my b/f, he needs gil more then me xD utsumie stacking though, like quivers HOLY! that frees up inventory! that should take me down about 5 used spots i think, i usually keep 8 stacks in inventory, and if you do that to ninjutsu tools aswell, ill start carrying dokumori: ichi tools more too

I think they were trying to remove the reliance of NIN sub for tanks.
