what r the type of jobs we have in MP right now. Is it almost equal down the board or are we melee/or caster full?

Hmm, seen a decent amount of white, red and black mages & thiefs. Buncha ninjas. Few pal / drk. What we seem to be rather low on is bard, beast, warrior, monk. Definately low on tanks.

I'm currently working on bst, and have my 30mnk/war soon to be mnk/thf (that way it's clear that i'm not tanking, and for GilFinder, Treasure Hunter, and Sneak Attack... but uh... levels are in my sig... yeah, i play lotsa jobs...

[edit] add nin to the list... just got it... wish i could get sam though...that'd sub better with my mnk

I'm WHM/BLM and I think MP definately needs more Tanks. This becomes more apparent when we decide to do a Mission for MP day. I think any linksack holders should keep an eye out for good Warriors (with the approval of Creve of course).

Currently, I'm just a WHM.

Question, do Paladins make good tankers?

Oh yes they most certainly do :)

I totally agree about needing more tanks in MP. i'm shooting for smn/whm, but going to stay whm/smn for a while until i get all of the summons

Going for WHM/SMN and RNG/NIN

MP is definitely short on tanks. We have a very high amount of mages (all colours), thieves, and rangers.

I have chosen to become a tank, however, and am currently leveling Paladin ^^

Yea! Whenever you need a WHM or BLM let me know ;)

DRG is my main job now. My subjob will depend on level, or a specific party need. I'm not a tank, though... :/

Originally I had planned on being a thief to start and then when I reach around 30 I'd go get my ruby to become a summoner and then be smn/whm, but perhaps I should go for a tank job. I'll be either Warrior or Monk in retail when the HDD is finally released for FFXI.

Tora, if you want to be a SMN/WHM I'd do BLM to 18, get subjob, WHM/BLM to 30, get SMN, then take SMN/WHM straight though to 60.

Question, what subjob in general would maximize my WHMs abilities, and what meelee subjob would maximize my WHMs abilities?

Mithra have 2/3 the MP that Taru do, so SMN would be the best sub, followed by BLM. As a general rule, melee and mage jobs do not sub well with each other, but if you're hellbent on doing a melee sub to your WHM, I'd do WAR, MNK, or PLD for the Def and HPs. PLD would be best since it will give a bit of MP and PLD is all about the Def.

what is a PLD's job? I think after i get my RNG/SAM above 60 i may have a PLD/WHM.

PLD/WAR is the ultimate tank. Undead ph33r the Paladin

lol the PLD's job is to get beat up. They have the best Def in the game and have multiple ways to hold aggro. Hell, their AF armor generates hate! They're the only job w/ a decent rating in shield and one of three with decent parry. PLD is the guy you want the mob focused one while everyone else does their job (debuff, keep PLD alive, nuke, attack, whatever) since it's least effective to attack a PLD.

Upon the table a new card

Wait for me to come on home

I'd like to do something like RDM/MNK or perhaps MNK/WAR, and be available for some tanking that way. Just have to get my subjob first

ok from hearing some of the people what would be best for the LS?

1)DRK/NIN

2)WHM/?

3)BRD/WHM

4)WAR/BST

5)RNG/SAM

i really want to get a job that will add to the LS.

So do we need more healers or more tanks.

I think i look good in the WAR AF armor... :)

Toren, play what you want. If you play a job just cause you're told we don't have many, but it's not a job you want to be playing as, you won't have fun. You only win at MM games if you're having fun.

wasnt sure which i wanted to start with. In beta i played a RDM so i wanted to do something differrent. I dont care which job i start at, i only have a preference in jobs after i get to 30. I wanna open every advanced job and have fun with all of the. Although i may not get SMN cause that sucked in beta.

Well some say that Summoner sucks in the retail, but I don't totally agree. From what I have seen everyone expects the summoner to be this crazy over the top powerful job. Well it isn't. It's balanced with the other jobs as well as square could manage. More than anything I think it's just peoples perception of what a summoner should be from previous FF's. The same thing would happen if they made Chocobo's blue dogs. People would claim they can't run fast enough, and aren't afforable enough. Just my 2 cents :P

well what really sucked was getting that ruby. I had to have lvl 50+ ppl kill about 200 leeches in quifim at a time to get it. Then the weather didnt want to
cooperate. But SMN should be like BST but with summons. They should have a godly amount of MP and the summons should be better then they are. I mean you need a party of 65+ ppl just to get them and then they dont fight worth a damn.

Getting a ruby is a lot easier now they in Beta based on what you had to do it. A 6 member party of 26-28 is what I was in when I finally got mine. Its a rare drop, but I know some people that were lucky enough to get it on their 1st or 2nd try. Others, like me, took a few days.
Level advancement in the beginning goes by very quickly. I'd say its 1 of the fastest level gainers from 1st to 10th. Mostly due to the fact that you can fight 1 mob while Carbuncle is fighting another. You can also take on even-matchs & even tough mobs since you have 2 fighting against it. Having a white mage sub was very useful.
I stopped at 11th & won't be leveling my smn until after i get all the other summons. Given that you have to defeat the summons inorder to gain the ability to use it, I don't agree that its balanced. If they didn't make it so you had to be 65+ level to get them, then it would be balanced. At this point, I use smn as my sub for the Max MP Boost ability which is very helpful for mages.

I've decided to go with DRG/WAR for parties, with DRG/RDM as a backup/soloing job until I can actually use an en- spell, and then it will become more useful to me. I still need WAR to keep hate from Delphyne, though I hear the better Jumps take care of that.
