So, the
Otakon people have finally opened up pre-reg on the web, and I thought it might be a nice idea to do a MithraPride group pre-reg.
I've already submited info for creating the group, and while I wait for the email back to hear that others may be added to the group, I thought I'd get a list of people who would be willing to trust a random cat with $35 USD each ^^;
Now, that price is only good until May 15th it seems, so this poll isn't going to remain up for long, and I would request payment via paypal to ensure I receive everyone's payment in time.
But what do y'all think?

I'm trying to set it up so that I can go but I'm not sure. Its far for me too. I basicly have everything i need to go except money. A: money for ticket B: money for plane trip C: money for stuff in general. So if my parents decide to finance my trip you bet I will be there.

I'd go but I can't for 3 reasons:
1. Summer time and I really need to find a job. (My hobbies are not cheap.)
2. Very far for me. (No car and I'm in the middle of Louisiana.)
3. I'm gonna try and go into the Navy. (They offer work experience, money, and pays for collage.)
Some of my classmates say I'm crazy and stupid for wanting to try for the Navy because the Navy lies about everything just to get people to join. I'm gonna find out for myself.

Amsterdam -> Baltimore..
hmm...
Get on knees before my dad to get another loan while still paying back for the Japan trip last december.
Getting lectured on needing money again for a hobby from what he doesn't seem to comprehend why I like it.
Ultimately getting the money....
Step into an airplane on friday evening for a 12 hour flight to Baltimore,
go to convention (Sleep...nani?!

)
Go home sunday morning to be back right on time and on my feet monday because of work.
hmmmm... not a good idea.

It's 2088.92 miles away. Sorry Gold, but that's 10x too far.
On a side note, Naru Fugihara you should join the Air Force. Better benifits, esp educational ones and they don't lie to you. PM me if you want more info.

That's what some of the people say in my class, though they say all branches of the military lie

. Thanks for the tip though, I can't handle the G-Forces and plus I'm very near-sighted.

Aww.. where are all the Maryland kitties? ;_;
On a side note, I may be mistaken, but I don't think all members of the airforce have to fly planes. Or even be fit to fly planes.

lol very few in the Air Force actually fly. Something like 2% or 5%. Most of the members support the planes or the other people. There's one pilot in a fighter, but it takes 100's of people to keep it airborne. As for your vision, mine is sh*t poor and it wasn't a problem. As long as glasses/contacts will get you to 20/20, you're fine. Bad hearing is more likely to keep you out.

I have a bad subconscious habit of ignoring a lot of noises when I'm very focused on something, in cluding people talking to me. I'm not absolutely 100% sure about the military, the Navy has been after me because I scored a 75 on the military test they have high schoolers take and in their computers every job except for the necular field showed up that I could qualify for.
Then I have family who's been in the Navy, though he pulled some stupid s**t and got a dishonorable discharge and I have a friend in the Navy.
I just know that I'm not going for the Rangers, Marines, or any other unique group in the military.
I thank you all for the advice, if I go into the Air Force then me and my uncle would have a lot to talk about because he's currently in and he's qualified to fly all most anything that can fly, so I may ask him for flying lessons sometime

All branches of the Service lie. The Elected branches of the Government lie. Some of the Civil service lie, but most do not.
But the worst things are not lies, they are the unspoken statments. Most common and worst example, "Chose your training."
So you get trained as a computer tech. There are 387 Computer techs and 17 openings. But wait!! there is a desprate need for the Shore Patrol (Navy MPs) guess what you spend the next four years as?
THIS IS REAL. Happened to too many friends. Ask your recurter how many job openings there are in your chosen field, and how many graduate in that field each year.
You may also note that our wonderful Republican dominated elective branches have cut military benifits, combat pay, and veteran's benifits and services. But they DO support the trops....
Oh yeah they HELP pay for college, they don't pay for college.
Best deal in the military used to be the Navy Reserve, you do your 2 active years AFTER your reserve time, almost guarented to make E 5 (Petty officer 2ed class) before you put your real time in.

Sadly this is quite true. Make sure you're guaranteed a slot in your chosen field before joining. And get it in writing. My recruiter was straight up with me. Told me what was involved and that the opening for my AFSC (Air Force term for your job) would be held for me, and pointed out where in the documentation it stated as such. Make sure you read everything before you sign anything, cause once you sign the deal is done.
Military does not pay for collage totally. But if you do your research, you can find out where the most benefits are. For me it was the Air Guard. I get GI Bill + kicker, $20k student loan repayment, and tuition reembursment.
If you have questions, let me know. I'll answer as best I can. Tirial I'm sure would be glad to as well. ^^

I myself was in the Marines and agree that you have to look closely at what youre going into and what youre going to sign before you make the decission to do so. So IMO, (and experience) do your homework and find out everything that you can about the different branches and the jobs available that you quallify for and make an educated decision about it. If you need any other questions asked please ask ether the recruiter or other ppl that have been in the service.

Heh, I kinda hate to bring this back to the original topic, but it seems at least for this year there won't be a MithraPride pre-reg group.
I now return you to your regular military discussions ^^;
