Unable to update

I've been completely unable to update last night.
I managed to get to 1:30:00 left in the download when it dropped me and forced me to start over.
It all went downhill from there.
Seeing it get progressively worse, I gave up and tried again this morning. Now I can't even log into POL let alone try to download
I've never seen it this bad... Which is a credit to SE on their record so far. But still... this is rough.

Congestion During the Version Update
This is a notice about issues occurring during the Apr. 20 update of FINAL FANTASY XI.
You will need to update your FINAL FANTASY XI software following this update. Due to the large number of players updating their software, network congestion may cause timeout errors to be displayed. If this occurs, we suggest that you wait and try again at a later time.
For those unable to complete the version update process, we ask that you please wait several hours and then try again.
We apologize for any inconvenience.

well, you could try running the NETSTAT command while you're connecting to POL, then use NSLOOKUP to find which download server is least congested.

Yeah, I've seen the Square-Enix official line about the problem.
I could probably quote it by heart now

There's an alla post about it.
But to be simplified, if you put that into the command prompt when you're connecting, you'll find a list of the POL download servers. They work on a round robin system, so one is always going to be less congested than the other. So, you can ping the servers that you find with NSLOOKUP, then put into your C:\windows\drivers\etc\hosts file something along the lines of.
127.0.0.1 localhost

P.S.
How the hell did I post in pink o.O;;

I had the same problem. I just waited a day or so and tried again, and it worked. Just be patient and wait for everyone to stop downloading.
By the way, I feel your pain with it starting to download and then kicking you. ; ;
