In the classical and pre-modern mentioning of "pimp" as "a go-between for hookers and single people looking for a good time", Pimps generally wore wide brim hats with feathers in them. therefor, the RDM AF hat is more "pimpish" per say. In conjunction with the RDM AF in its entirity, the overall gentilmanly look of the Artifact Armor gives the impression of affluence, something which a "pimp" or "brothel owner" would wear to appear upstanding in the community and as a sign of the profitability of the acient and classical mentioning of adultry.

This is not to say that Black Mages do not have "Sweet looking threads", but merely a reflection of the appearance of nobility with which a Red Mage, as a duelist and dabbler of magics, to be known as a "true Renaissance" person with working knowledge in all things martial and mystical would in classical terms need to be someone of affluence in order to cover a wide array of studies.

I read this aloud in a smart British type voice (you know, the guy smoking a pipe and reading a book kind).

Alistair Cook, host of a tv show Masterpiece Theatre on public broadcasting in my area. Pretty much in the show, he introduces what play or TV adaptation of a book that will be showed that evening. And yes.. he is a brittish fellow with a book and a pipe... i think he had a pipe.. >.> been a while since i last saw the show..

well anyway.. I'm waiting for the Black Mage counterpart for this discourse on hats.

I always preferred Alistair Cookie from Monsterpiece Theatre.

Back on topic: The feather definitely makes for a more "pimp" look

Hey! I'm British and I take offense to that sterotypical view of... me! :P

I think the BLM AF1 set looks rather dull whereas the RDM AF1 set looks very schweet, especially on mithra :)
BLM AF2 set and JSE look sweet though :)

well seeing as that the JSE has mithran designs on it, I would expect it to be designed with the mithra in mind. Now, as for the hats, I quite frankly like the BLM AF, the Relic looks like a jester costume in my opinion.

lol ok....

When I said the BLM hat was pimpin, I meant it as 'cool threads' rather than 'hat for pimps'. The 'hat for pimps' definition of pimpin would go, hands down, to the RDM AF hat. I mean if you're walking downtown and see a black dude with gold teeth, shades, an ornate cane, wearing a red velvet suit, what hat would you expect to see on his head?

so in FFXI terms that would be a red mage in AF armor, Dark Staff, and mysteriously also wearing those Goldsmith shades...

I'd love to see that actually...

So is the Dark Staff the official "Pimping cane"?

I think it should be the Thunder Staff... many pimps like purple. :)

I think RDM AF looks more "pimpin'", in that it looks like something a pimp would wear, and it looks better.

I do like the BLM AF too though.
