So it tracks the locations of mobs and gives an effective range for provoking them?

Nah it autovokes a mob based on their ID number from the packet sniffer. :/

Very interesting,
How did they get FFXI running in a windowed mode

I've tried that, and every website tells me it's not posible.
So I have my doubts seeing this pic.
The reason I would like to is because I want to use IRC too and don't have the money atm to buy a second PC just for IRC.

There are windower hacks everywhere. Using them is against the ToS though.

They also leave your computer more susceptible to having your POL IDs and passwords stolen, from what I've read on here.

also, those kinda things can send prooke requests without the GUI, making the whole "Spawning in purple" shtik. I've tried to do it, but since my packet sniffing knowledge is very limited, I failed.
Oh yeah, also the fact that I could get seriously banned (is there any other kind?) if I was found doing this.

So I guess the next question is how did you come across this?

I use a windower, I refuse to play in full screen only.
Azaril's is the only clean one that works that I know of. SE can say what they want, fact is I hate logging in and out to check a website.

I tested for SSL security in the POL logon but found none. Be careful.

Google.
I do not fee like goldess banning me in case there is a particular aversion to windower links here.

I'm REALLY paranoid about installing anything on my computer like that. Just in case. Yeah, it is a pain in the ass to have to log out, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I know Azaril personally so I am not too concerned about it. But that is the only reason, normally since I am a programmer myself I tend to be very paranoid about anyone elses programs.
Do not get me wrong, I am by no means an angel or anywhere close. I have written and published macros for this game. Ever seen a summoner or other mage standing and casting over and over hours on end for skill ups? chances are especially the summoner it was my script they were using. However that is where I draw my personal moral line. I see no wrong in macroing a repetative task, that quite honestly serve's no purpose other then a stupid time sink. So I created a script that raised summoning, healing, enhancing, dark and elemental magic skills, however I did design it where unless the person was savvy enough to write there own, it could not be used to get exp or coin gain in any manner.
I do however disagree with bots created for farming purposes, and thus I will not release one..ever, although I am fully capable of it skillwise.

I don't need a windower

Now that I have a laptop again I can do that. I guess I should play, though.

Knowing that these exist just killed my interest in hunting any NM aside from Tom Tit Tat, but I bet even HE'S camped for whatever reason.

I think that one day, in the distant future, game developers will realize that they should only send data to a player's computer if it's intended that the player to have access to it.
A packet sniffer does no good if there's no hidden information to be gleamed from the data stream. But there always is.

Well, that would put an end to 56k users if they did that. If most of the data was server based anyways.

I still can't get Azaril's windower working. I've done everything I can think of... it launches the DOS window for the .bat, it launches POL, I get to FFXI, hit Play and... full screen. Every single time. My in-game resolution is smaller than my desktop resolution, so I should see some desktop... but I don't. Ever.
I don't care about sniffing packets or whatever... I just like having the freedom to search online for things, or speak with my family/friends on AIM. The stupid warning at the start of the game says "Don't forget your family, friends, school or work." but to play the game, you have to hide your IM messages or else they'll kill the game. =^>.<^=
But if you have any tips on how to get it working, please PM me or post a link. We've talked about windowers on here before, so I don't think it's too taboo.

I don't like windowers myself because it makes hack programs like the one posted that much easier to design.

He has a new version coming out soon Josie, We are testing it currently. Its far more intuitive then the previous versions and eliminates a ton of issues. I use the JP client so I never could use the old versions either I had to use Virtual PC to force it in a window, basically running windows within windows, until this version. Now if you have a fairly beefy computer that can handle two versions of windows, and the game without lag, then you can use that and size the window any size you want, Friend of mine uses it with his dual monitor setup...I am envious...

Azaril's Windower will only window if your FFXI resolution is set to less than your desktop resolution. So for example, if your desktop resolution is 1024x768, your FFXI resolution must be 800x600 or 640x480.

ironicly, i use the windower, using desktop resolution at 1024x786, and my ffxi resolution is 1024x786. it is still in full screen for me, and ,thank god, i can finally alt tab out of ffxi and not crash the program ^.^

Just a quick warning (disclaimer) to those who do use the windowizer or anyone who plans to use it. Using one is against the ToS and if discovered, the GMs will ban you for it. They have made that clear to people in the past.
