Just a cute reminder of another part of the game that many of us forget about. Very cute, and you might need some tissues (for the more senstive kittens). ^^;

You know, the first time I read that story, I cried.

The music didn't help.

I'm sitting here sobbing. LOL

I'm such a sap.

The first time I read that story, I'd just gotten back to the game from spending two months overseas. The person I was getting married to in the game said that he was going to wait for me -- level up jobs other than Paladin, roleplay, do some exploring of the world. He said he would be there for me when I got back.

Well, when I got back as my 38 RDM, his Paladin was already at least level 50. He'd completely gone and left me in the dust. He had no other jobs around my level, and my friends and I were very upset at him because he went against his word. We were all trying to start up a static party with my RDM, my friend's WHM, his PLD, a WAR -- all we were missing was a damage dealer and possibly a black mage. We were fully intending on starting up a static party once I got home. Everyone else waited for me on that LS, but the one person we really needed had completely blown us all away.

Due to that and other useless drama, the LS got completely trashed. Then someone posted that story on another forum, and the 50+ PLD friend of ours sent it to all of us with an apology.

....and then, after a few weeks of feeling sorry for himself, he went back to being a jackass and telling us to screw off and that he was going to continue to level PLD. The end.

Not all stories have a happy ending. Heh.

It's a nice story... but again, it's just a game.

A game with real people and real emotions.

I agree that it's just a game -- I've gotten into this discussion with people many times during my years of RP. LARPs are "just games," PBEMs are "just games" -- far too many people seem to use the "but it's just a game! Don't take it so seriously!" excuse to be an asshat or to get away with being a jerk to other people.

True, it is just a game and something that should be done for recreational purposes only, but people develop friendships in this game -- hell, I know of a few people on Siren server who had their characters hook up in the game, who got to know one another OOC, and now they're getting married. Sometimes people do take the things that go on in the game seriously, even if they shouldn't. We're only human, after all.

You (general you) can't tell me that someone hasn't done something to you in the game that's made you really irate, like caused drama on a linkshell, grieved on your party, acted like a jackass and said things that have gotten on your nerves, etc. I think that's basically what this story is about -- just sort of a moral way of reminding us what the game really should be about.

Wow. I'm sorry that sounded so preachy. ><

I don't say it to be an asshat or anything. I play the damned game.

Aren't the two mutually exclusive? :p

Then maybe I am an asshole. I just don't think of games as seriously as some people do. Especially a game I can't beat.

It was...

a joke, Ko.
