I got it!!

Okay, since September, I've been trying desperately to get an internship working with the Arizona State Legislature working on one of their House/Senate committees. I got letters in the mail from the Democratic party as well as my university, stating that I had a high enough GPA to try out for it. So I figured since I didn't get the last internship I was trying to get down here in Tucson, I thought I'd try this one on for size. I mean, the worst that could happen is that I wouldn't get it.

So I wrote up my application, my job resume, had it typed up by this fabulous older lady in Tucson (I so owe her cookies -- she will be getting some next week). I made it through the first cut, which is basically where they look at your application and decide if it's good enough or not to merit an interview. I made it through that. I went to my first interview in Tucson. After that interview, I was told that there would be a second one to go to in Phoenix if I was deemed to be a good candidate.

I found out three days later that I made it through the second cut, and had to have an interview in Phoenix at the AZ State House building. I would be interviewed in front of 40 people (20 people asking questions, and a 20 person audience "grading" me). I did this on 11-4-04, and was told that I would be receiving a call by Thanksgiving to let me know if I'd be offered an internship or not.

Well, I was getting pretty antsy two days ago since I hadn't heard back, and they'd been pretty prompt in getting back to me the last two times, so I was worried. Then I got a voicemail on my cell phone that I missed by (literally) a minute. I was getting in my car to go to work and I heard my voicemail bell ding. So I go and check my messages and notice that there's a message on there from someone in the 602 area code (Phoenix). I don't know anyone living in that area code, so I assumed it could only be one thing.

I shut my car door, because I knew this was either going to be really good or really bad news.

I got so far as hearing, "This is Mary xxxxxxxx from the Arizona State Legislature, and I'm calling to offer you an internship with..." before I ran out of my car screaming with glee, back to my apartment. My roommate thought I was going insane since I was running around the apartment, jumping up and down and screaming and hyperventilating all at the same time. Heh. Called up my parents, my grandma, and my best friend who all live up in Scottsdale and Phoenix to let them know the good news.

AAAAAH! I AM SO PSYCHED!!

I'm going to be working with not just only committee, but THE committee -- I'll be working as an intern to the Arizona State Democratic caucus. AAAAAAAH! SO EXCITED!!

Now I need to get back to looking for apartments online, even though I have a few friends on that already... I just can't stop talking about this. I am so psyched!

It'll be an 8-5 job five days a week, but I get weekends off, and I get paid (and I'll be getting a tuition waver and a stipend for rent, bills, etc). I'll be paying cheaper rent to live in an apartment up in Phoenix (probably $100 cheaper than I'm paying now), even though my utilities probably won't be covered. I'll be saving money in the long run, and this is just a great opportunity to have.

Of course I'll have to come back down to the University of Arizona to graduate next December, but I really don't care. This is going to be so awesome.

Congrrrats. :2thumb:

Is this internship for college credit? If not can you make it a 499 independent study thing? At the U of Washington, a 499 could be worth as much as 1 credit for each 3 or 5 hours in the workweek.
