Untill it saves my ass in a pt or makes me a shining example of what a true damage dealing class should look like, I'm not gonna be too crazy over our new two hour. It gives alot of little -eh- bonuses except for the sadly short Str boost. Other classes have more solid and specific 2hr's.

Frankly, it's the skill of the player behind the two-hour that defines our power.

They weren't gonna make it omgwtfbbq super amazing leet! Is there a 2hr that is super awesome? No. It can be a life saver for the whm or blm, more then that it's a hellalot of fun!
So new 2hr not so great but 20min Call Wyvern, that's what the update was all about!

Spirit Surge

ok. I haven't read through all 6 pages of this forum topic, but I think it's safe to say no one really understands what Spirit Surge does.

Spirit Surge is a 2hr ability only usable when the Wyvern is out. From it, the Drg gains a Str Bonus based on an average of the wyvern's and the Drg's. For me, at lvl 62, I get Str +12.

Further, roughly 20% of the wyvern's HP is returned to the drg as a heal. Yes, you heard me, healing. Even more further, the drg recieves a minor haste (2-3%), and a minor acc enhancement (2-3%), along with the jump effects.

Just for kicks, I just wanted to point out that you do gain TP, which just happens to be the Wyvern's TP at that time. What this means is, with effective timing (and I have pulled this off), a Drg can preform a SINGLE solo skillchain, but it is very tricky.

To day, this is the most complex 2hr ability in FFXI.

To sum it up...

Str Bonus
Minor Acc Bonus
Minor Healing
Minor Haste
Jump effects
Wyvern TP to Drg

Talk about a mouth full x.x;;

I wasn't aware of the Haste but it probably isn't noticable anyways.

The TP thing makes it funga +1, I've done a solo transfixiation with it, once I get Impulse Drive I can do Gravitation :D
At 72 I get +15 STR :)

I wasn't asking for an omgwtfbbq 2hr. I just kinda wished it was simpler and more purpose oriented. I mean, it has about 30 more uses then any other 2hr, but each of those uses are weaker then other 2hrs.

And yes, Angelstar, earlier in the thread it was described what the 2hr does. ^.^;

Eh well that's compare it to other DDs.
MNK Hundred Fists is pretty awesome so we'll ignore that.
THF get Perfect Dodge which is pretty lame and like never used unless a pull goes wrong or something.
WAR gets Might Strikes which is pretty good.
SAM get ... that TP thing I can't spell, that's awesome :D
DRK get Blood Weapon which sucks.
RNG get Eagle Eye Shot which is pretty meh and can miss.

So Spirit Surge may not be as powerful as Hundred Fists or whatever, it's a damn deal better than Perfect Dodge and Blood Weapon though :P
Next to the SAM one it's the most fun 2hr in the game :D

Str bonus +15, Attack bonus of like 50. My HP went from 1279 to 1511. Holy crap, I'm in love with Spirit Surge. <3

The Str boost and hp boost are awesome, don't get me wrong. But 30 sec or so only with a medium/high delay weapon, not that many attacks. And what Atk bonus? The only one I saw was the retroactive Atk bonus due to the Str bonus. Your Atk should only go up by 50 if your Str went up by 100.

So besides the Super Jumping a mage's hate away and a world-ending WS, I'm just saying it's not as good as some think. Our biggest strength is the perma-wyvern. And don't get me wrong, I like our 2hr. It's alot better then what we had before, nothing.

wha...what about he uber deadly WHM 2hr? lol. j/k I know you were just talking about dd's. But our 2hr is deadly....for the WHM using it 8)

Astral Flow does pwn but they're not melee/physical damage DDs so I didn't include them :P
