I can actually understand that idea behind wanting to get invites as your main job. I'm gonna have to level NIN so that I can actually earn my keep as a PLD later (meaning get more than just xp parties once I get past about 70. HNMs and such apparently "hit too damn hard for a PLD to be tanking them". Not if the PLD tanking them is equipping themselves right they shouldn't be! >< But anyway, apparently in order to be a viable tank for HNMs and god fights and such, NIN's gonna be a requirement. Kinda irks me. I despise most NIN tanks (I've had one near my own level that actually impressed me so far) and I just have this really dreadful feeling I'm gonna hate being a NIN tank. I already get annoyed when using Utsusemi as PLD/NIN (uber-gimped sub, yay!) to have fun with soloing some stuff. the timing for it is so frickin screwy! ><

hmmm... after level 40, PLD does not take over for nin ^^;
in fact, pld not so useful for CoP BC fights at all. Unless the nin really sucks, usually Nin is a better choice for CoP.
and NO, my nin lv 62 has nothing to do with it, I didn't use my Nin in CoP at all. I only level up nin for the AF, I don't like tanking at all.

To the blind one, unto the world
Decreed this message of life
Do not judge what do you can see
Based on your own life
Lest you do, be sure to perish
Under the dying sun
For all you see, beneath the sea, is but a lifeless garden
Vision isn't how you see
The untold and unforseen
Judge off your own living soul
For your eyes will lie, and lives grow old
Listen to the blind man's words
For he is all known
Judge not what you see can see
And trust in where you're going

Angelstar, that is beautiful.
Kintrra, I judge tanks by how well they hold the hate. As a RDM, a good NIN is a dream to work with, almost no healing necessary. But with the average NIN, I am Cureing everyone and blowing off more MPs than I would on a merely decent PLD tank.
But I know nothing about God fights.

pld and nin, both great tanks, just in different ways. And as for gods, some need pld more, some needs nin more. no one is better then another one. Every job has it's use in this game. Just depends on what the party needs.
Many people say drg suck in pt, but as a thf (or jobs who sub thf) in a exp party, drg is our best friend. High jump lost drg's 50% hate, while super jump lost 100% hate. After level 66, drg can do Light SC with thf and drk. Pt setup with nin, drg, thf, drk, rdm, blm is not bad. When I first had that party, I thought oh crap, 4 melee and 2 mages, and have a nin tank, gonna be hard to hold hate for the nin. But I had a good drg in party, he knows what he is doing, drg/sam, he take turn SC with me and drk. blm MB light, and nin have no problem holding hate. Because after drg high jump or super jump, the hate goes back to the nin (yes, I know some nin does suck, but that has nothing to do with the job, it is the player that sucks) if drg is out of jump, drk can SATA off me(yes, thf can tank with nin sub as long as can hold hate), or I'll just TA the nin.
That party was one of the best pt I had.
what I want to say is, player's skill is more important, sometimes you are lucky, you'll get a good nin or pld. If you unlucky, you get a bad tank. It is all luck, you really can't use that one suck player to say... "nin better then pld" or "pld better then nin"

hon no offence this wasnt a which tank is better discussion, it was what is needed for CoP discussion.... as for tanks and parties though. they all vary. a good leader knows how to build a party. a bad one doesnt. the best parties have complementing abilities and mele's. complementing abilities make best parties. knowing which jobs complement each other. not just which ones SC together, make parties that you like to remember.

So... there's this naming rule that's sort of popped up that any party that runs through mobs quickly by going off the deep end on one tactic is a "burn" party... I wonder if we'll be seeing "Mosh-burn" parties forming up if Dancer becomes a job?
