What I don't understand is why does the RG part matter? I mean this is a fantasy. And we are all a colection of pixels. If some can and wants to play a role, say as an offhand example Mithra dominatrix, and does it well and believably, what's the difference?

And do not give me the standard "I don't go for guys" c**p. In game none of us are guys, we are all toons. Some of us are male toons, and every Mithra is a female toon, but we are talking pixels and typing, not reality. So someone has the hots for a GREAT set of... PIXELS??? And insists on a reality componenent to go with them???

No, seriously, I mean it. Anyone who's ever been near teenagers knows how much boys are afraid of having their heterosexuality questioned. Anything that hints that a bot likes other boys must be rooted out and burnt at the stake; and finding out that the hot collection of fur and flesh you just cybered with actually has a penis and facial hair... oh, the horror!

It doesn't make sense, you're right. But, to some extent, nor does a guy watching lesbian porn. After all, it's based on the fantasy that those people would want to have sex with you, too. So, really, the fantasy is trying to boost the existance of your reality.

Hmmm, maybe I just hit a missing link. Cyber as a form of porn? No different to sex stories, really. So, the idea that you cybered with someone who is, IRL, a guy, is offputting to boys because they think it somehow reflects a willingness to sleep with men on their part?

edit - and note that I'm saying this as a guy myself. Even though I wouldn't describe myself as homophobic, the idea of cybering with a mithra who turns out to be a guy IRL turns my stomach a little. But then, I'm not into the idea of cybering anyway... old-school straight-edge x_x

This one I know, and IRL I understand it. Well mostly....

But I am going to give you a phrase:

Willing suspension of disbelief.

Without it we could not play this game. Or read Sci Fi or fantasy. Or Dickens for that mater. Or watch most things on TV or most movies.

So if we are willing to suspend disbelief to cast spells, and swing a 5' 5" greataxe, and even to cyber, why can't disbelief be suspend about the person behind all those hot pixels?

That is the part I just don't understand. I guess I never will.

Hehe, thankies ^^ I did a few modules of Sociology while at uni, and though most of my fellow students didn't take to it, I totally got a hold on the subject, especially on stuff like prejudices and image. That, and my brain works best at 2am ^_^
