Connection problem

Hey all, for you people who know alot about computers and stuff, I'm having problems with my connection at home, we just got our DSL back after we lost our phonelines in the house <long, stupid story>. Our other computers are holding connections fine, but for some reason, my computer keeps saying "cable 4 network unplugged" and keeps flickering on and off<giving me internet for about 5 seconds at a time before crashing> This happened once before, and then went away right before we replaced the ethernet card... does anyone have any idea what it might be?
My fiance thinks it might be the ethernet card, since all the settings and stuff are fine, but i'd like it if someone with more knowledge on this<and less at blowing out phonelines/networks> to maybe comment.

Just hit 32 on WHM and going through withdrawls=(

Im not a big wizard on cumputers but i know a fair amount of knowledge. You mention you were using a network, are you using a hub or router? And if so is it possible one of the channels on the router/hub is shot??? Im not sure but its a thought, sorry I cannot be more help.

first try a known working Cat5 cable. Also examine the connector on the card itself to make sure it is clean and the pins are straight.

First step is to isolate whether it's at the hub or not.

Take your cable and plug it into one of the ports that a computer that is working is using. Then have that working computer use the port you were using. If your computer still cannot maintain a connection, but the other working computer can, then it's on on your end. Meaning it's the cable, your card, or your computer itself. If your computer can now make a connection, but the one that worked cannot, then it's that port on the hub.
