you all are getting kinda personal, there. And I wasn't quite sure what to call it either, I suppose flail wasn't quite right. Flogger then?

Yes, from what you all have said its a flogger.
Those tend to have rigid handles and several to many long rectangular soft leather tails. Of course many other materials work for the flogging ends (or floopy bits as I like to call them), strips of inner tubes, those medical rubber tubes, plastic aquarium tubing, even cloth.
I am willing to bet some use strips of chainmail but I have never seen any. For those into showing off bruises I bet chainmail would leave a pretty pattern.

Actually both.
The cat can be seen as a specific subset of floggers. 9 lashes, materials of the lashes can vary. That one is nylon I think.
I like the knots on the ends of that one's lashes. I have friends who would drool over it.

Don't think of stuff as heavy as medieval reenactors wear, nor most of the stuff in museums. Think almost as light as butcher's safety cloth, about like 18th century Persian chainmail. It would have to have large enough diameter rings to leave patterns but light enough so skin doesn't break.
