IRC
A lot of us are starting to gather on IRC again, like the old days. Right now, we're on irc.esper.net, in the channel #MithraPride. If you don't have an irc client, http://www.esper.net/ has a Mibbit you can use.
Hope to see you there!

Re: IRC
That reminds me...
I have a Vent server that I have maintained for nearly 4 years now that I will make available. I need to do some revamping of the channels first however. I realize some may not want to use that for RP reasons and that is fine. However for those of us who would, it will make organizing some things in game much easier. So I will post the information later this evening once I have had a chance to setup MP channels as a place for people to use if they so desire.

Re: IRC
...... between TS3 and Ventrillo.... they seem to work just the same. I don't really see a difference. They both sound good. They both have volume options. I saw that TS3 has some more bells and whistles on it, but from any standpoint, either works just fine.
People like to argue about power consumpsion..... My attitude is "REALLY?" I mean, niether use a signifigant amount of power from anything to operate. If you are experienceing lag using either of these programs then somthing is wrong. Be it insufficiant hardware(What the hell are you running? A Pentium 3? I heard you can find those in cereal boxes!), or software related user error. Seriously if you're going to play FF14 without developing a subdural hematoma from beating your head into your desk than there should be no problem with either program.

The other day I was talking about some NES Game and I said "Back in my day, we didn't play with newfangled buggy engines." and then it hit me.... In Video Game Years... I'm ancient.Tirial wrote:Whipper snappers.Kaorii wrote:Voice chat is so 2004.

Hah, yea.
I remember those games.
I remember how crazy it was going from the Atari to Super Mario.

Re: IRC
The Atari Generations and the NES Generations .... we have one thing in common... Without us, there'd be no crappy wii or ps3 or halo. Kids today should thank us for making gaming what it is. The Atari Generations taught us how to not build an industry and flood a market with generic games. And the NES Generations stood in defense of the Atari Generations and said "This. Works." And yet we let EA flood the market anywaysKeerith wrote:Hah, yea.

But back on topic, I really don't do voice chat because most of the time, I'm thinking about the game, not really chatting. I guess to the internet I'm shy because people on the web don't know me, people in real life do. Maybe it's just me.

O.O I was 3 when I got my first NES. I was also born in 85 O.o; That also still qualifies as NES Generation.Tirial wrote:No.... you old farts should be thanking the those of us born in the mid 80's for creating the demand to develop new tech.

Thank you for pointing that out again.Tirial wrote:No.... you old farts should be thanking the those of us born in the mid 80's for creating the demand to develop new tech.
A few weeks ago I told someone I was already watching Anime and reading Manga when the kid was still in diapers.
The Worst part of it, IT WAS TRUE!
Thank you for making me feel old again while I'm not even 30 yet (at least not for the next 6 months yet.)

And I try not to do voice chat, either. For one, by the time I'm gaming my wife is usually asleep in the other room, and I don't want to wake her up. And if I do, I don't want her to give me the "You're talking to random people on the internet?" look.

Second, your mileage may vary, but I've only had a few good raids on vent. Most of the time there's a lot of random chatter, people screaming about adds/fire/incoming meteor strikes and etc. I can see the add running for me, the boss' summoning emote, and the add's appearance emote. I don't need half a dozen people yelling it at me over my headphones, too.

Re: IRC
I like vent for small exp groups. Especially in EQ where I'm a bard and can't type too much while pulling due to all the twists and turns.
NES days were fun, thats why I love my modded xbox 1, with the big ass emulator disk that has like every single nes, snes, sega, genesis, neo geo, and misc other old systems games. Intellivision was my first game system, then NES.

Re: IRC

Behold!
My first console, oh the memories!

Thankfully some of my friends are from even an older era to remind me I'm not THAT old yet.
(I'm from '81)
As for the other topic, I guess I'll go download Teamspeak again.
Though personally, I too am a bigger fan of Ventrilo.

Re: IRC

This was my first one, tho I had different controllers on it. Mine had these joysticks that were always getting broken off, then I had to super glue them back on.
'79 here. I'm turning 31 the day FFXIV launches.. I feel old!

Word up to the '82 crew *gangster sign* I'm 28 next month, and it's kinda depressing since I haven't gotten anywhere in my life.Keerith wrote:<- 1982. I really am an old fart.
We had one of those things that's basically a pong machine, had two "controllers" that were just a knob you'd turn to move the paddle up and down the screen.
Though my first computer was an Olivetti 8086. For you kids that don't know 486s came before Pentiums and before them 386s, 286s and finally 8086s. It had 512KB of memory, that's old school. I had a game called "ninjer" because my dad couldn't spell "ninja"

Re: IRC
Bah, with the way things are today, it is suprising anyone from our generation is anywhere. I've a degree and am working on a second..... both of which don't show promise for a decent job. Seriously, I put out 20 applications, resumes, and cover letters a week and nobody calls. It's rough out there.

Heh, in 10 years them kids will be asking you what pentium is.Sugami wrote:Though my first computer was an Olivetti 8086. And I'll ask you if you know why they called Pentium Pentium.

Oh and between those 8086 we had the 8088, 80186, 80188 and then the 80286 came.
The 80386 after that was the true revolution as it was the first CPU on a 32 bit architecture which lasted until the later Pentium series.
Re: IRC
I could answer that..or just let those who won't understand the brief synopsis of Due to AMD coming on the scene read this. http://www.brighternaming.com/pentiumstory.htmlShirai wrote:Heh, in 10 years them kids will be asking you what pentium is.Sugami wrote:Though my first computer was an Olivetti 8086. Re: IRC
I am going to make you all feel young.
My first computer was made of cardboard. It was analog. It had a 2 D cell power supply. I got it from an add in a comic book. The year was 1954. Dwight D. Eisenhower was president. I was 10.
As to the voice chat thing, it blows my immersion, my concentration, and as a mater of fact I do have a marginal machine.
Being a RPer in a game that hardly anyone RPs in is not an easy thing. Pardon me if I do not want to be reminded of the humanity of my LS mates, nor their enthrallment with sports, porn, girls, boys, school, or politics.
Besides, although one can get voice changers so you can RP a real girl (or boy) on Vent or TS, there are none with a Mithra accent.
