The human body can adjust to pretty much anything.
Also: if you lose a sense or the ability to move or walk, then your other brain functions will take over those sections.
Also, while the brain can be damaged, it does not ever stop regenerating. Its just that it can not replace itself. Meaning getting drunk won't kill your brain because the damage isn't that much. A blow to the head is different.
Also, the human skull is one of the hardest surfaces that is not man made.
